Holiday photo bomb

I’m still digesting the Thanksgiving feast… And the leftovers. I will hopefully do more dolly things this weekend, but I’m not hopeful as I’m currently vegetating. I’m also in this weird place where I’m not waiting for anything in the mail (yet! Still waiting on my commission customization of Finley.).

Actually, I am kind of waiting for something from one of my best friends ^^. My friend is an artist, and she promised me a digital art drawing of one of my dolls. I was super excited when I saw the progress photo:  It’s Rory!! Totally framing that and putting it on my dolly shelf.

I’ll hopefully have more to post this weekend ^^. I hope everyone celebrating Thanksgiving had a good holiday, and happy Friday to both celebrators and non celebrators 😀 .

A cool new thing

My friend gave me her spare photography light box!  Pardon the mess.

I’m not sure I can tell the difference between using a photo light box and not using a photo light box during the day. I guess one plus is that the walls of the box diffuse the natural sunlight (like it is meant to), and that sort of soft natural light does make for a nice photo. Having a real photography light box definitely beats having to DIY one. I’ve tried making one before out of a cardboard box, tissue paper, and poster board , but it was a fragile mess.

Link to the tutorial I used for the more adventurous, craftier folk than I.

Hopefully I’ll be able to take better photos of my doll things now! … And also not have to rely on filters to make my photos pretty >_<.

Late night crocheting

So I’ve been in a bit of a crocheting slump lately. It’s been some weeks since I’ve purchased a new skein of yarn, which might attribute to some of my lack of excitement for crocheting. A lot of the time, I’ll see a skein of yarn at Michaels and think of how gorgeous the yarn would look when made into a hat or scarf for me or my one of my dolls. Since I haven’t added any new skeins to my stash, I’ve been working with and looking at the same balls of yarn day after day. I guess my brain is desensitized to the colors and textures I own.

At some point during this winter, I do want to take on a rather big project – I want to make myself a sweater! I have 12 skeins of this rich, mid-tone blue satin sport yarn just sitting in my stash untouched. However, I need to mentally prepare myself for this kind of thing. I imagine making a sweater will take a while, and long projects are sort of a marathon for me. They test my endurance, and patience to look at the same thing hour after hour. I’m also the type of person who doesn’t like to have multiple crochet projects in the works at once, so that doesn’t help at all.

And since I had this sweater project in mind, of course, my brain tells me to procrastinate in crocheting a sweater by crocheting other things!

Animal-eared headbands! The deer headband was pretty annoying to make. The yarn for the antlers and the ears were kind of a pain to work with because of how thin they were. It was totally worth it though! I really like the deer motif for my dolls, and it’s perfect for Christmas ^^. I think I’ll be adding these mobius-style headbands to my shop, because I’m pretty pleased with how they came out.

I’ve actually made a considerable dent in my yarn stash this past month, making gifts for my friends and family, and also crocheting little things for blythe dolls. I hope to keep busting through my yarn skeins, and then I shall reward myself with something kind of luxurious – like a skein of nice alpaca yarn.

Not quite there yet

I recently purchased a black Monique wig off of eBay in the style “Bebe” in hopes that it would suit my Marshall Lee inspired Azone Obitsu hybrid. Monique wigs are well liked in the BJD community, as they are very good quality and can be heat styled.

I’ve been having the worst time trying to purchase a wig for my Marshall Lee doll, because most of the wigs out there in this small of a size are for tiny/childish BJDs, and so the hair styles are very childish as well (think… mushroom bowl cut). 😄 I’m sorry to say that my search will still continue, because check this out:

That’s a lot of poof. Also, it reminds me of Early Bieber, circa the mid 2000’s. And not in a good way. Also, the wig stained my boy’s head! Luckily, I got most of it off with a magic eraser.

I can actually tell you exactly what this wig reminds me of, but I’m not sure how much of it will make sense XD. There’s this manga called Hirunaka no Ryuusei. If you ever plan on reading this manga, **SPOILER ALERT**

The main character is this straight forward, kind of odd high school girl from the country side who moves to the city to live with her uncle. She falls in love with her teacher, who deep down also has feelings for the girl too, but keeps himself from acting on his feelings but is also unable to truly reject her. That guy, when he was younger, dated this girl with a tomboy-ish hair cut who broke up with him to pursue her career. Later in the manga, the tomboy-ish hair cut girl comes back into the picture and is all like “You kids don’t know anything about life. I’m an adult, so I know more than  you. I participate in mature relationships, and as kids, you children should go run off and play,” and she tries to lock down the teacher in a casual relationship. I DON’T LIKE THAT CHARACTER!

/end spoilers

I’m tempted to buy a small amount of black alpaca, and trying to make a wig myself. Or attempting to make one out of yarn as practice, but the last time I tried that, I got frustrated during the part where I had to brush out the yarn strands and then sew them onto the wig cap.

Other than the wig, this boy doll will just need some red converse shoes ^^. I’m really happy with how his outfit came out, and I’m going to try to be patient with his wig situation.

A MINIJIJO Clothing Haul!

Let me paint a word picture, if you will.

Finding 1/6 scale boy clothes is difficult, especially if the body is on the petite side. There are way more options on Etsy and eBay for girl doll clothes, and even the pickings for tomboyish girl’s clothes or unisex clothes are slim. Blythe doll clothes are actually a bit too big for the Pure Neemo Flection XS body, which can look cute for a girl doll if you’re going for the slightly oversized look. I was specifically going for this look:

I was on a mission – a mission to find a red and black checkered shirt and a pair of jeans that wouldn’t look like a child was wearing his dad’s pajamas… if his dad happened to be a lumberjack… or the Brawny man.

Exhibit A: The Brawny Man

Not My Photo. Found on: http://gregbanning.cgsociety.org/

I actually reached out to Jijo of MINIJIJO, because I saw that the seller had sold a shirt like this in the past. I was super excited, because I love the MINIJIJO items I have already and I felt confident that the designer would be able to fulfill my custom request. While I was at it, i also ordered a few other things – a set of five socks and a multicolored star dress that I had favorited a while ago.

The jeans I purchased in an Azone facebook group for super cheap! ^^

So happy with how he’s coming out! I have a wig coming in the mail, and it should get to me by Monday. I’m actually not entirely sure how much resemblance he’ll bear to Marshall Lee, but I think this Azone/Obitsu hybrid is pretty adorable so far. Maybe this boy doll looks a bit too nice to be a bad boy like Marshall? I tried giving him a smirk, but I think the issue is with the eyebrows being too good-natured.

I’m finding myself addicted to the look of Azone dolls. I even kind of want to reroot my next obitsu head! When my Marshall Lee doll is complete, and I still enjoy having him, the next Azone/Obitsu hybrid I make will be based on Marcelline the Vampire Queen or Fionna Human.

^^ I also took this chance to redress Marina. I had her in my Miema Dollhouse outfit for a while, and I wanted to take the opportunity to explore her style. :3 I think I was very successful.

Number 1 – I finally found something to pair those glittery gold boots with!!!!!!!!

Number 2 – Excuse me while I express how pleased I am. Um. how adorable? Please and thank you.

I’m really happy with how the look came together. I think Marina’s personal style is on the bright and funky side. Very visual, and very fun.

I feel like I was very active with dolly stuff this weekend :D, and that makes me pretty happy.

I hope everyone has a restful weekend!

The Ever-Sought-After Sanrio My Melody Blythe (photo spam)

Today I hung out with my former coworker who is also a Blythe lover and collector. She recently added a My Melody blythe to her collection, and I insisted she bring her out today when we met up. I really wanted to see My Melody in person, as I had also hoped to add her to my doll family when I first saw her prototype.

She is GORGEOUS. Her blush and lips almost a vibrant shade of pastel salmon pink. All of her chips are special, and very cute. I definitely oohed and aahed over her for the better part of the day ^^.

I brought two of my own pink haired girls – Rosaline and Merry.

So much pink!

Seeing My Melody really makes me want to add a translucent girl to my family. The thing is, it’s not just the blythe’s face that looks translucent, it’s her limbs too! I actually wouldn’t mind any of the older translucent releases either, like Nostalgic Pop, but I kind of want a BNIB girl. There’s just something about being the first one to debox a blythe. The next translucent girl to be released WILL be mine!
