One thing at a time

In the midst of a major slump. Maybe it’s the winter blues (winter blues apparently is more than just the state of the weather. My whole body is just in the season of winter, and I’m feeling restless and hibernate-y).

I’ve been away from blogging and pretty much all of my hobbies for longer than I would have liked. I guess I’ve just really not been in any sort of mood to do anything.

I have been… watching a crap ton of movies  and playing so much of the new Story of Seasons game (finished year 1).

I’ve had some exciting new additions to my doll family recently.

This is Xenon (also Zee, Zi, or Z) for short. She is a Project Doll House custom by Jannette ^^. She looks so different from Marina (a 2015 custom). I always think it’s pretty neat to see how a person’s artistic style changes through the years. I’ll have to take a side by side photo of Xenon and Marina soon.

Jannette also included a gift girl >_<. This pretty is a DIM Trisha (I think) on a modded Licca body. I super love her faceup! It’s so delicate, and she’s giving me major Snow White vibes with her rosy lips and cheeks (that signature style blush :3) and dark brows and lashes. I’ve ordered her a pair of eyes and a wig, and I had fun shopping for her too! I normally am not a fan of things that involve tiny pieces (sewing… model building… puzzles…), but I’m likely to just keep this girl in the same wig and eyes for forever ^^. Hopefully the ones I ordered will suit her.

Honestly… if this pink hair, purple eye combo works, I’m tempted to name her Potpourri after an older Harvest Moon character.

I do have one more addition to the family, but I will be saving that for another post. ^^

In a rut

Yep, I’m still in a rut. I haven’t really done anything with my dolls as of late, except maybe redress them with some new clothes I received recently. Which brings me to mail roll call:

  • Hi-Ho Marine custom by Jannette of Project Doll House
  • Jerry Berry I adopted from Jannette also
  • A Dim Doll head on a licca body from Jannette as a much-too-gracious gift

Side note: this box is going to be the most next level package ever.

Photos by Jannette herself. I love my hi-ho custom so much. I purchased the base doll on Dolly Adoptions with the intent to send her away to Jannette, and the big reveal happened a few weeks ago. MAGIC. It’s amazing how Jann’s style developed through doing face ups and customizing various dolls, and then translating that skill wonderfully on my new girl. I love how graphic and fun this girl looks with all of those pops of colors, and the cute bob she gave her.

I’m not sure what I’ll name her. I wanted a space themed name, because her whole look to me says out of this world. I was thinking maybe Luna, Cosmia, Orion… Spock maybe (though I’m not a fan of Star Trek). I don’t know yet. Maybe River?

It’s also wild to me that I adopted a Jerry Berry. And the DIM girl I can’t even process yet that she’ll be coming to live with me.

Onwards:

  • My Kickstarter order finally hit the shipping stage.
  • A stationary order of washi and art prints
  • Ronmiel outfit set
  • Remember Design 2 outfits

And … I think that’s it.

I guess being in a rut has not stopped me from shopping…

Hello Elo

I wrote a post on my phone… and accidentally deleted it T_T.

I think I had a pretty good day! I went to Costco and stocked my fridge, I took a long nap, and I redressed four girls. ^^ at the beginning of the year, I won a giveaway on Facebook hosted by Anne (check out her blog! :3).

All my girls are cat ladies, because only cat ladies are allowed under my roof! ^^ Elowyn is wearing a dress by annearchy, a tutu by minijijo, shoes by qmagicdoll, cardigan by Tired Mom Knits, and a hat made by me.

Marina is quietly judging my wine drinking and Finley is channeling Eleven from Stranger Things.

This girl doesn’t have a name yet, but I did get her out of her stock. I had to take a photo of her with my cats as these past couple of weeks, my two cats have been fighting, and I needed to catch the cute cuddling moment while I could (and I had a doll in hand so why not!).

I wish I had shorts in my doll wardrobe. Since this Licca chan’s stock is a mix of tough and feminine, I thought I’d go for a tomboy look.

I don’t think I’m waiting for anything else in the mail. Which is both good and sad :-/. I love mail, but also I should probably stop shopping.

A peek at the doll shelf

^^ I got my orders of doll clothes (two sleep forever dresses and one second hand ronmiel set). I have to say, getting in dolly time is SUPER hard when the kitten wants to be a part of everything I do. I only managed to get the girls on my shelf redressed (will tackle the girls in the glass house tomorrow hopefully).

From left to right:

  • Marina is wearing a minijijo dress, a knitted cardigan, and rement Mary Janes.
  • Mikan is wearing one of my new Sleep forever dresses and shoes from Kuloft.
  • Remy is wearing the Ronmiel long sleeve shirt, a pinafore from missblythe2012, and loafers from a Daiso Elly chan set.
  • Reese is wearing a plasticfashion dress and rement Mary Janes.

What you see here is the shelf that my two cats can’t reach (YET). I have the IKEA huset set displayed, as well as a chair I picked up from Daiso. I plan on painting the table with some chalk paint, wallpapering the back of the shelf, and crocheting a cuter rug… some day XD.

I feel so behind in my crafting/hobbies. It’s hard to get anything done with the kitten bouncing around (she’s so stinking cute and sweet from time to time that it’s hard for me to stay annoyed with her).

🙂 I hope to fit more dolly time in this long weekend.

Mail roll call:

  • Cu-poche figure from Hot Topic
  • A repainted obitsu head from eBay
  • 2 Licca chan dolls from Mandarake

… not… terrible… right? … I need to control my spending but something about the year ending is making me stress shop.

Some peace and quiet

Because of the new kitten, I haven’t been able to do much with my dolls or with yarn. She has a way of wanting to be a part of everything that my older cat and I do. Today, after a bit of cleaning and tiring the baby out with a good play session, I got to redressing my Blythes and organizing my shelf ^^.

My dolls are as inaccessible to my pets as I could make them. I have three girls in an IKEA socker greenhouse, and three girls on one of my shelves. I even took my IKEA huset living room furniture out of the box!

I really like the doll furniture set ($17 at IKEA). I will probably repaint the chair and table at some point, but I don’t mind the color of the couch cover. I like that I have the option to have my girls sitting instead of on their stands.

I think my favorite outfits this week are worn by Finley and Reese ^^.

I hope to make it out to the local blythe meet soon! I missed the last one because LA is too far away for me to confidently drive, but i think I’m getting the hang of driving now to feel less afraid to venture out that far.

^^ Also, I may have mentioned that I sent a girl away to be customized. I aim to start a sort of vision board for her to send over to Jann as inspiration. I think I’ve been pretty good this year about buying dolls (I think I just purchased the repro licca and the Hi-ho marine blythe), so getting my new blythe customized is sort of my xmas gift to myself! Very excited :3.

Gratuitous cat family photo, and till my next post, folks.

My last NYC Blythe meet

Hopefully not for forever though. I plan on attending Blythecon 2017, which will be held in Brooklyn. But also, I do plan on visiting NYC once in a while, so it isn’t like I’m saying “goodbye forever” to the NYC community. It was really nice being able to see everyone one more time before I head out westward.

I learned a few things from today’s meet.

  1. I want a Skinny Scalp. See below said scalp modeled on Moppet (Moppet belongs to Heidi of Ricky and Friends). It is super soft! And it makes me happy to know that the scalps are humanely sourced.
  2. Jerry Berry dolls have big heads! Below doll belongs to Julie of Knitting with Dolls
  3. Gardens and parks really are the nicest places to hold meets. There’s so much scenery to photograph the doll in front of, and there’s more space to spread out, especially if the meet-up group is big. The downside is the mosquitoes (:( I left with five bites).

I had fun and also I’m feeling pooped out. The past week has been kind of hectic, and I’m still not packed. 😥 I also haven’t even had time to redress my dolls, so I ended up taking Finley out with me today.

Weekend rituals and life in general

Every weekend, I try to redress my dolls, that way I can figure out what items in the doll wardrobe I love, get a better sense of what things go together, and it’s quite relaxing to redress them while sipping a glass of wine and watching some YouTube videos.

Prisma (left) and Finley (right) are this week’s best dressed girls ^^. Prisma is wearing a checkered shirt and tutu by MINIJIJO with a pink hair clip. Finley is wearing an adorable shirt made by my friend, a Missblythe2012 jumper skirt and Qmagicdoll shoes. I love how different these two girls look! They were both customized by different artists, and so their faces are quite different styles. I’m so in love with Prisma, but somewhere down the line, I may give her a licca body (her neck wobbles on her current body, so I’m not sure that I would want to do an arm transplant).

I’m slowly decluttering my things in order to move with less. I do foresee myself having to leave some Blythes and coming back for them later or having them mailed to me, but it’s so hard for me to choose who to bring.

Now that the move date is less than a month, my anxiety has kicked up to over level 9000. The less time between me and my move, the less I feel prepared, and the more real the changes feel. I’m scared… Because change is terrifying. But I see it as having to choose between staying in my current city and living with depression, or relocating and dealing with anxiety. Staying feels like giving up (just because sameness is easier), and I don’t want to give up. I want to someday be happy, and I don’t think that where I’m living right now will lead me there.

Lol. Check out my Fitbit. This is my heart rate as I sit in my chair, panicking (for reference, my resting heart rate is 63 bpm).

The one thing that’s changed for me though, is that I’m also feeling bouts of excitement mixed in with the periodic worry. I think I know that in the future, I will be glad that I’ve taken a risk in my life, after playing it safe for so long.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Happiness in simple things

So I’m torn between naming this new girl:

  1. Kenzie
  2. Hadley
  3. Prisma

She’s so delicate looking. I’m not sure any of these names will fit, because when I look at her, these names don’t come to mind (except Prisma, for some reason… But it’s such a oddball name, and also the name of a villain in Sailor Moon). I guess I’ll think some more (way open to suggestions!!… help…).

I’m in a weird funk right now, I think because big changes are coming my way and fast. I know that a lot of my negativity stems from my anxiety, but I can’t turn it off or shake it off. I try to take a day by day approach to life, and do the best I can today so that I might be better prepared tomorrow, but sometimes my “best” doesn’t seem good enough. Even as we speak, despite being thrilled to have this beautiful new Blythe in my collection, I’m worried about safely transporting her with me during my move. Yeah… I’m feeling weird.

Also one more thing! I finally got around to knitting with the hand dyed yarn I purchased off of etsy, and it’s so beautiful~~~~

I’m completely in love with this color way. It’s well on its way to becoming a shawl ^^.

What’s in a name?

Busy, busy weekend! Today especially!

I went to a Blythe meet today, and the turnout was big! We had it at a park in the city, and I was so glad that the weather was nice today (not too hot, cool breeze, slightly cloudy, NO RAIN!). It was a great meet – there were tons of dolls, new faces, and snacks! Also, there were quite a few non-blythe dolls there, including my Repro Licca chan, a Wataru, 3 Susie Sad eyes, and one yarnhead doll (named Jean Paul).

I brought two girls out today – Marina and my Repro Licca chan, who I decided to name Remington (Remi). >_< I didn’t have time to redress Marina before the meet, but I did pop Remi into one of my new Sleepforever dresses!

I was also surprised by a generous gift from my friend, who I met last year and have bonded with since over our shared love of blythe dolls, food, anime, and cute and pretty things. My friend asked me if I wanted to adopt one of her girls she was considering rehoming. I always hesitate to accept big gifts, and to me, a Blythe is a big gift. I was really touched by my friend’s generosity, and I only wish I had something equally special to give to her. This is one of the amazing things about the Blythe hobby – the fact that you can form a meaningful friendship from a simple conversation that started with the question “Have you heard of Blythe con?”

Here is my newest girl! She looks like she might be a customized Simply Vanilla. After some sleuthing by a fellow blythe enthusiast, she deducted that this girl was customized by Sugar Luna. I put the doll in my other Sleepforever purchase (matching dresses with Remi), a pair of white tights, and some black maryjanes. She has a slightly ghosty look about her… I think it’s because her coloring is quite pale. She has the cutest freckles, stormy grey painted lids, and a slightly dark mauve lip.

As soon as I got her home, I changed her pull strings (they are now a light puple), gave her pull charms, and cleaned up some scuffs on her face. I think I might name her Hadley or Hyacinth. I’m still thinking though! Finally, a girl I can dress in black and muted neutral colors! She looks like Finley’s more emo/reserved twin sister. Kind of like how Reese and Marina look like sisters. Elowyn is really the odd duck out, with her translucent face and dark brown hair.

I’m feeling quite happy with my doll family to date. I love that three of them have huge sentimental value to me, one was my very first blythe and the very first girl I’ve had customized for me, and one has the same birthday as me (birthday, release day, potato, potahto).

Life is a funny thing. If you had told me 10 years ago that I would l0ve dolls, I would have called said “no way.” By far, the blythe hobby has been my most social hobby, and one that has changed my life for the better.

Highlights from Today’s Blythe Meet

Tons o’ fun, and quite the turn-out for today’s Blythe Meet. I was stoked to have been able to see a K07doll custom in person (the blue haired custom on the upper right), and I can confirm that the doll is amazingly cute in person as it is in photos ^^.

EXHAUSTED! And feeling quite talked out, since I don’t normally do much socializing. I’m really happy that there’s a somewhat active Blythe community in my area. The meets are a fun gathering of like-minded people, who just genuinely love Blythes/dolls. It also gives me the opportunity to meet new people in the community, and in some cases, put a face to a username, or owners to the doll.
