What No-Buy?

Did I say I was on a No-Buy?

Apparently, I must have been mistaken. On particularly trying days, I find myself browsing eBay, etsy, and sales group on facebook for good deals on doll clothes and dolls. I think of it as window-shoppng. I’ll cave every once in a while on a new outfit, but I’ve been pretty good about not making any big doll purchases (I don’t really count my Hujoo Nano Rabi because of how small he is, and with shipping, he costs the equivalent of 3 lunches… Priorities, amirite?). This morning, I decided to check my Promotions folder in Gmail (mostly to see if Knitpicks or Michaels had a good promo code up), and I saw a newsletter from the Junky Spot saying that they have the Hujoo Janus Gato in stock!

Both photos are from the Junky Spot website. I had the doll in my cart for about five minutes, before I pulled the trigger.

I’ve actually first saw the Hujoo Janus Gato when I was researching anthro cat bjds. I really liked the look of the doll’s face(s) and body, and I thought it was super interesting that the head had two faces on it – a mostly cat face and a mostly human face. The cost also priced it way under most of the resin anthro cat bjds on the market. However, at the time, the only place I found that I could order the Janus Gato was on the Hujoo website, and I didn’t want to pay a lot for shipping from S. Korea. So, I proceeded to put this doll out of my mind, as I had come to terms with the fact that I would probably never own it. Imagine my surprise when I saw the doll’s sweet mug(s) in an email!

Now, I’ve mentioned that I didn’t think I was a very good BJD owner, because of a few reasons. I guess I felt overwhelmed with all of the extra things I felt I needed to buy, but knew very little about, and also I was afraid of yellowing and the idea that the doll would lose value for simply being exposed to light or age. The only BJD I’ve ever owned, a DearMine Dorothy Anthro cat girl, spent 98% of her time with me in a box in a closet.

I think things will be different with the Hujoo Janus Gato, because the doll is made of ABS plastic and also while not cheap, it’s nowhere near as expensive as a resin bjd. I also don’t have to worry about wigging this guy because of his unusual head.

I also already have a character planned for him, which I will go into when he gets here ^^ (already shipped, Boom!). Sooo, for the next month or so, I shall be packing my lunch.

Belated Spring cleaning and some BJD love

I spent the better half of today doing some major cleaning at Knotted Things HQ (a.k.a. my crib). I went to Michaels today and picked up a few things (one skein of adorable yarn, a big plastic container, 2 bead storage containers, and some beads for Rosaline’s pull string). I love shopping at Michaels when they have a 40% off entire regular price purchase coupon ^^.

I ended up redoing my shelves, and organizing my doll things, and my craft boxes.

Shoes on top, beads on the bottom.

I got the idea to store Blythe shoes in these small containers from one of Jane’s (maidensuit) videos. Both of the containers were about $2-3 with the 40% off. I get so much happiness when things are organized cutely. I’m as big a fan of boxes as my cat. The new beads I purchased today are the rose charms and the pebble beads below them.

My shelves!

My shelves!

And here is my shelf after the major cleaning! You can see my dolly family minus Potpourri (my Dear Mine anthro girl), who is currently in a box, wrapped with a white towel, in my closet… away from the sun. Rosaline needs a stand so she can join her sisters up top. Also, can you tell I really like Adventure Time?

After almost 5 hours of cleaning and organizing (I’m either really slow, or very meticulous), I decided to reward myself by pulling out Potpourri and dressing her up. Best idea ever.

PotpourriPotpourri

I mentioned in an earlier haul post that I purchased a dress from Rabbit In the Moon’s etsy store that was a bit too short on my blythe, Finley. It has a high-low design, and it didn’t cover Finley’s lower doll parts. I tried the dress on Potpourri and it is so lovely, and so her. The fit is justperfect. I’m patiently waiting for her commisioned pink alpaca wig, and when that comes, Potpourri will be complete. Ugh so happy. After I oohed and ahhed over her, I wrapped her up again (this time, she’s not naked!) and put her back in my closet. I love the Dear Mine Dear Pet anthro girls. They look so so sweet, and I really love cats.

Random P.S.
I’m ecstatic that that Finley, Summer, Potpourri, and Rosaline can share clothes.

My Evolving Wishlist and Current Mail Call

Nowadays, I use the website Wishlistr.com to keep track of what I currently want. It kind of works like Pinterest, where you can “add to Wishlist” using a button you can save on your bookmarks bar.

  1. A pink haired blythe – Stella Savannah, Prima Dolly Peach, Prima Dolly Peony, Coco Colette.
I think my next blythe doll will be a pink haired girl. i will most likely wait for the next release to come out, rather than scouring eBay for a decent deal. I do have my eye on the My Melody blythe coming out later this year, though I wonder how bright that pink hair is. In the initial photos, My Melody has shockingly bright pink hair (almost neon). She also looked a LOT like Penny Precious.
  2. Cat Themed Jewelry
This one is a bit random. I think my Etsy front page recommended this item to me :D. Even Etsy knows I am a cat lady.
Would love this in gold rather than silver.
  3. Dear Mine Siamy
I recently purchased a Dear Mine Dorothy from eBay (I named her Potpourri :3). I think one day I will also purchase Siamy! She has really sultry looking angled eyes (the Dorothy model has rounder eyes). … What I would love even more is a limited edition Dear Mine Pet Cat doll!
  4. A pink mohair or alpaca wig for my Dearmine anthro Potpourri… also clothes. Lots and lots of clothes.
  5. A Babycatface custom blythe
I follow this artist on flickr, and I was quite taken by one this person’s recent customs for adoption, Olive (name twin!).
    This is Olive
I’m not sure if I’ll ever own one of these girls, as $800-1K is kind of (wayyyyy out) of my price range. I just really love how the lips are carved, and the amount of detail work that went into the doll. This particular custom is a beauty to behold from far away and up close. /SIGH.
RANDOM NOTE: I noticed that I’m not particularly huge on eyebrows on blythe dolls! I think it has to do with the fact that the official releases don’t come with brows.
  6. More Middies!! – i’m not picky. i just need MOAR.
  7. More Blythe Clothes – I have so many listings favorited on Etsy.

Mail Call!

Yes… I did some damage over the weekend. XD

My first BJD – meet Potpourri!

Ugh I love her so much.

My first bjd! DearMine Dorothy

Meet Potpourri (…PopPURRY =^_^=). She is a DearMine Basic Pet Dorothy doll.

This actually all started with me looking at Bryn and thinking… what would be more convenient than a Middie to carry around in my bag? I immediately thought Hujoo Nano Freya, as I’ve seen a good number of reviews on youtube and on some blogs. The Hujoo Nano Freyas were cheap, they seemed low maintenance (they’re cats… they don’t really need wigs if I choose not to buy one), and I could experiment with face-ups without worrying too much about messing anything up. They are also so very wee.

I was not a fan of the size and the distance between the ears though… nor was I crazy about the eye shape. I don’t know… it’s the little things that bother me! These tiny details I don’t particularly like, that I can get over I’m sure, but leave me feeling “eh” about the doll.

I started googling other anthro cat bjds, and there are a ton! I actually bookmarked the Dika Doll’s cat anthro, Lutz zuzu delf, Aimerai anthros (I don’t think these are even out yet), and the Dollzone Miss Kitty, along with almost all of the DearMine anthros.

My first bjd! DearMine Dorothy

I saw this girl on ebay at a really good price (the doll would be second hand and a little over a year old), and I made an offer… and my offer was accepted!!! I guess Potpourri was kind of an impulse buy (I love good deals).

I kind of love her dark burgundy eyes, and her face-up is so colorful! I think I will be getting her a light pink mohair wig and some clothes from the Dearmine website (:( I shudder to think how long shipping will take). The only thing I have that will fit her is that white sweatshirt dress I got for Finley.

And after all this… I don’t think I’ll ever tote her around. Potpourri is now the most expensive doll I own.
