From left to right: Finley, Reese, Marina, Rory, and Elowyn

I have a bit of a thing for my girls in Plastic Fashion dresses. Somewhere down the line, I decided that with each new girl I get, I would purchase a dress just for her. For four out of five of my current girls, it has been a Plastic Fashion dress (I actually purchased a Button Arcade dress when I got Reese). I’m particularly partial to my dresses that have the Peter Pan collars.

The sewing on these dresses is impeccable, and the lines are really clean. The prints and color combinations are very playful, and the silhouettes are really cute. The dresses have tiny metal snap closures. I hope to one day snag a long sleeve dress, that has a collar, and has either a fuller skirt, or a smock style dress shape. The dress also looks quite cute on a licca body (which Rory is currently on) or a pure neemo flexion xs body.

^^ My favorite dress is a tie between the one Finley is wearing and the one Elowyn is wearing. I was inspired to dress my girls in Plastic Fashion this week, because my friend recently purchased her first PF dress. My girls look so cute in their kind of matchy dresses (matchy but not really matchy because the colors and shapes are varied, but the style/feel of the dresses are similar). This photo also shows my current Blythe collection.

It’s weird… but when I have them all lined up like this or I’m doing a big group photo, I feel oddly satisfied with my collection! I guess because balancing five dolls for one photo takes some work, and I’m not sure I would be able to do it for more than five (that table barely fit all my girls. Maybe that means I need a bigger table).

My mint girls

As per usual, I redressed my dolls on Friday. I noticed that I tend to grab certain pieces of doll clothes and shoes moreso than others, which makes me want to declutter my blythe wardrobe. (The problem with that is that I have such a hard time letting things go!)

This week, my two minty blue haired girls are the best dressed (I also really like Elowyn’s outfit, but I’ve already shared photos of her in the previous post). 25470863270_3eda711cc7_zMarina is wearing stock shoes and blouse from Cute and Curious, and a suspender skirt by Kuloft.25141080284_488a4f6cb4_zReese is wearing a sweater I won from a Blythe Life giveaway, a tutu from MINIJIJO, and Zinochika stock boots.25651650132_598678ea19_kI also want to share these cute resin hair clips made by Iphis from the Crazy Doll Lady blog (twas the weekend of surprise packages ^^). Seeing these resin hair clips on my girls makes me really want to experiment with resin myself! Iphis has a few posts on her experiments with resin, and I’ve been watching some BJD resin eye making youtube videos (don’t even own a BJD, watching all the BJD videos), and it’s planted the idea that, “hey… that looks fun! I can do that!” XD I’m on the fence about adding a new project to my list though, seeing as how I’ve been slacking on the knitting lately, My yarn is not inspiring me to make things (and I feel lazy).

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Monday!

Mad Sewing Skillz

I’m kind of terrible at sewing. I realize that it’s the most cost and time efficient way to clothe my dolls, instead of scouring Etsy and Ebay or commissioning someone to make me a specific outfit, but it’s simply not a life skill that I’m good at. It’s all those tiny stitches, and that stupidly small eye of the needle, and all those pieces of tiny fabric! /sewing rage.

I found this pattern for a felt cape, and I thought it looked simple enough. At least the felt wouldn’t start coming to pieces and fraying from my handling it. Also, I figured since felt is thicker, it would be easier for me to sew too. The cape itself is really cute, and so seasonally appropriate ^^.

So I pulled out my craft felt and then this happened for a few minutes:

IMG_4361

She’s lucky she’s so darn cute. She can do no wrong.

And this is the finished cape:

IMG_4364 IMG_4365IMG_4368

XD It’s like one of those pinterest memes that end in “Nailed it!” The felt looks a little tortured, and my stitches are so uneven and crooked. … I’m not going to lie though, I’m kind of proud of this cape. It’s actually the first thing I’ve successfully sewed for my dolls. I think I’ll practice making it a few more times to see if I can’t get it to look nicer. I definitely don’t have that many coats in my doll wardrobe, and I like the wool coat look of this cape ^^.

Blythe Con Chicago Part 2 – The Haul

This year, how prizes at Blythe Con Chicago worked was that every one who purchased a ticket would receive a goody bag upon arrival. In that goody bag are an assortment of dolly-related goods and a chocolate bar with a golden ticket (because the theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory :3 ). The golden ticket tells you what door prize you won, and you redeem the ticket for the prize at one of the tables.

(Some of) the things I purchased!

The thing not pictured in my haul is the custom face-up commission I purchased with Chantilly Lace. I decided on the spot that I wanted Finley (my stock Cadence Majorette) to have her face redone by a professional customiser. I have mixed feelings about Finley’s stock face. On one hand, I really do like her stock – it’s cute and classic. On the other hand, her face lacks the personality that my other dolls have. I’m excited and anxious as this is my first time getting a doll customized and it was quite a bit of money I wasn’t expecting to spend!

But I’m mostly excited!!

It also feels a little weird being short one doll! But with the clothing I purchased ta the convention, I only really had enough items for three outfits, so I guess there’s that.

Chicago and Blythe Con

Rosaline is wearing polka-dotted pants from Cmon Dolly (LOVE), and a top purchased in a lot on eBay (I think it might be a Barbie top, but I might be wrong). She’s going casual today.

Chicago and Blythe Con

Marina is wearing the complete dress set I won as the door prize. The set is by Miema Dollhouse. I love the daring color combinations, as well as the super cute whale print. The teal color actually matches Marina’s hair perfectly!

Rory is wearing a headband from Kbabydolls, her shirt is from Cmon Dolly, and her pants are from Our Blythes Argentina.

The shelf seems a little lonelier without my blonde girl. She should be back in a month or two though!

MiniJijo haul and completed crochet goods

I’m still struggling to find a dress or outfit that looks made for Marina. I still think she looked best in that blue and white checkered dress with the super poofy skirt that I first put her in, because of the silhouette of the dress (tight fitted bodice with a full skirt kind of reminds me of mermaids, or maybe Ariel?). I was able to pick up my package that I ordered from MINIJIJO, as it was sitting in the post office for about a week, and it included a light blue dress I thought might look cute on Marina.
IMG_3560I kind of feel like it misses the mark… the dress itself is cute though!

And here is the rest of my haul:

IMG_3558I ordered five tutus and two long sleeved dresses ^^. That rainbow deer dress is kind of amazing. All in all, I’m happy with my order from MINIJIJO, as I was in desperate need of separates. The tutus will be used as skirts, as well as underskirts (? … not sure what they’re called, but they will be giving my dresses some volume 😀 ), and long sleeved dresses are perfect for the fall.

I actually have my eye on a few other things in the store. The prices are attractive, and the dresses I purchased are well made, so I will definitely be a return customer.

Here’s my MINIJIJO wishlist:

The main things that my current dolly wardrobe are missing are darker colors (I have an irrational fear of staining), middie clothes, and separates! And weirdly enough, only two of my girls have underwear… so I guess I’m missing dolly undies.

I’ve been trying to curb my doll-related purchases in order to save up for Blythe Con, but I’m not sure how successful I’ve been. My yarn buying has also been kind of out of control this past month >_<. I have a few long-term projects lined up (a bag with blythe sized pockets for toting the girls and my purchases around at Blythe Con, a top for me, and some World of Warcraft related amigurumi), and I’ve also finished a few quick projects.

collageIMG_3567IMG_3573

Tomorrow, I start the Blythe carry bag! >_< The projects that take up a ton of time always feel like such a marathon to me. I loathe leaving things unfinished, but with big projects I’m unable to crochet for more than a couple of hours at a time. Even though I may take a physical break from crocheting, my brain is still thinking of all the stitches that need to be done. .Hopefully 3 weeks is enough time for me to get it done!

Hello Autumn!

I really enjoy dressing my dolls, and I will often redress the girls all on the same day. It’s become something of a ritual for me, where I’ll pull out all of my boxes of doll clothes, shoes, and accessories, sit down on my bed, and slowly coordinate an outfit. Sometimes an outfit will suit the dolly’s designated personality and style, and sometimes it’s a complete fashion miss, but doing this wardrobe change often helps me cycle through all the pieces I’ve accumulated in this year. This activity is also stress-relieving for me, and it helps me bond with my blythes.

Speaking of bonding, I thought I’d do a bit of an introduction of each of my girls as I’ve come to fancy them ^^.

Finley – She’s a bit of an odd one. She’s my only stock girl, and real release (Cadence Majorette). I had thought she’d be an outgoing, tomboyish, adventurer type, but then she became the older sister – the easy going, patient, quiet and lady-like one. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure that’s who she is either.

Crocheted cat/devil hat

Finley is wearing: hat crocheted by me, striped t-shirt I purchased in a lot on eBay, overalls by Reve de Rui, and pink converses from the Simply Guava stock.

I’m actually not sure who she is at all yet, and that’s tough! I’ve had her the longest out of my girls, and I still can’t pinpoint her personality or style. I think part of my difficulty is that I purchased her as my first doll because I thought she would be a good first blythe doll. I would get a feel for what being in the blythe hobby was like, without breaking bank. She remains stock because I can’t bring myself to carve her or alter her irreversibly. I’ve changed two of her chips and spray matted her face, but that’s it. The only thing that this girl is attached to is her name, and that she likes to daydream, she’s easy going, and she likes to try new things.

Rosaline – She’s a super girly girl. She loves sparkly things, and she’s very excitable. She loves the color pink, pinafores, polka dots, play dresses, ruffles, and fairy tales, and heroes.  She has a strong personality, and is apt to fighting to get her way or going off alone. I dreamed her up while marathoning Steven Universe. She’s based on an original character of mine, as one of Peridot’s successfully forced fusions. Her separate shards were able to successfully sync with one another because of each of the fallen warriors’ strong desire to carry out Rose Quartz’s will to protect the Earth. Rosaline is not a sum of her parts, but an entirely new crystal gem, born in the Kinder Garden, unknown to Home World. She quickly befriends Steven, is seen with suspicion by Pearl (because she resembles Rose) and Garnet (because of the nature of her birth), and begrudgingly accepted by Amethyst (because of their shared birthplace and Rosaline’s resemblance to Rose, but begrudgingly because she is bringing disharmony to the group).

IMG_3501

Rosaline is wearing: knitted top I won from a Blythe Life giveaway, jean capris I purchased in a lot on eBay, and Country Summer’s stock boots.

Bryn – She’s a tough girl in a small package. She will take no sass from you. Although she’s the younger sister in the group, she’s also quite mature, but also kind of bossy.

IMG_3511

Bryn is wearing: Alicia Cupcake’s stock blouse, socks, and shoes, and Yeolume Podo stock skirt.

Rory – She’s the resident hipster-librarian closeted-otaku. She loves vintage, glasses, and old timey things. She’s bookish, and quiet.

IMG_3507

Rory is wearing: knitted cardigan I won in a Blythe Life giveaway, Sugar Mag collared undershirt, Les Jeunette’s stock pinafore, Ice Rune’s stock hat, and Cadence Majorette’s stock shoes.

Marina – She’s the resident mermaid. Her look is ethereal, confident beauty.

IMG_3508

Marina is wearing: long sleeve top and shoes I purchased in separate lots on eBay, and a crocheted skirt by me.

Marina is definitely getting changed again this weekend when I pick up my etsy order from the post office. She’s a bit too casual for my taste, but I really don’t have much in the ways of a wardrobe for her in my current clothing collection. Hopefully, Marina’s stand will come soon too!

I think it’s a little funny how I’ve written more about the dolls I’ve had longest, and less and less as the list goes down. I’m still getting to know my girls, and I like that their individual “auras” or vibes are different from one another.

ROAR my posts are all so long and ramble-y! I hope everyone has an awesome day tomorrow!

Weekend Re-Wardrobing

I try to make it a point to redress my dolls on the weekends, for what good is a big wardrobe if it’s not being used! I definitely have favorite pieces within my dolly clothing collection, so try as I might, some dresses get pulled out more often than others.

This week’s best dressed girl:

IMG_3134

IMG_3139

I think one of the good things about making and selling these hats is that if they don’t sell, my girls get new hats ^^.

With Finley, lately I’ve been struggling with bonding with her. When she stands next to my customized girls, her face seems to lack personality. However, when she wears outfits like the one in the photo, I’m reminded why I like her so much! Finley’s coloring pretty much goes with anything, and her almost white hair is striking.

Could use some improvement:

IMG_3148

IMG_3146

I feel like this might be too much pink on Rosaline. The dress is new to my collection, and I wanted to try it out. I’m not sure if it would look better without the blouse underneath, but in any event, the high collar and the long skirt seem stuffy. I will most likely change her into something else tomorrow.

Honorable mention:

IMG_3150

I originally had Rory in this long sleeved dress, but I decided to redress her. I wasn’t feeling how dark the overall look was, and it didn’t seem summer appropriate.

IMG_3154

This is also not really appropriate for summer, but it’s actually been a smidge cooler where I live (80 degrees instead of 90), so I thought “why not?” I think she looks good in this Stella Savannah stock! I’m kind of in love with the hat I made for her, so I tried coordinating outfits around it.

Redressing my girls and coordinating outfits is one of the things I really enjoy in this hobby. I must have favorited a few hundred listings on etsy for Blythe clothes and accessories. I’m pretty sure my dollies dress better than I do!
