Scaling down to 1:12

Initial thoughts – I really like the Picco neemo body! I got it in fleshtone Picco neemo s. It’s so TINY! I’m not a fan of the wig, which was hard to get on. It’s too poofy and bulbous 😦 so I may have to just grit my teeth and attempt making a wig. Lastly, I wish her mouth was closed :-/.

^^ I have been a bit obsessed with repainted heads or just painted faces. I found this obitsu head for a steal on eBay and I decided to treat myself. I love her eyes and I’m always impressed by how someone can paint on something so tiny.

Just a quick post :-/. I’ve been way busy recently – my kitten got spayed and since I live in a tiny studio, I’ve had to figure out how to keep her confined and separate from my older cat (bathroom is a no go because of poor ventilation), I’ve been trying to lose weight (unsuccessfully) by spending some time on a treadmill, and I’m trying to keep up with my other hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, and journaling >_<. My name is Olive, and I’m addicted to having hobbies.

WHO ARE YOU?

Elowyn in a dress by Sleepforever and a minijijo tutu.

I’ve owned Elowyn, my stock Cherie Babette, for almost a whole year. She was released on my birthday, and she’s the first and only translucent FBL, which is one of my favorite molds.

Even after a whole year, I still don’t really know how to dress her or what about her makes her more than just a plastic doll to me. I guess I haven’t really “bonded” with her, as sometimes I look at her and I’m underwhelmed.

I’m still not sure about her. Though the thought occurred to me, maybe I just prefer fantasy haired girls!

My first tiny

If you don’t count my Cu-poche!

Channeling early Bieber or Zac Efron.

I wish Obitsu came out with a doll body with the same proportions as the Azone Picco Neemo! I don’t see this girl as a child, especially with her eyes. I’m planning on making a junkyspot order, and I’m considering picking up a 11cm body and a 21cm body… hoping the 21cm body will suit her and not look weird.

I’m also considering making a wig out of alpaca! I don’t know though. I’m at that point where I feel like I don’t get many opportunities to craft (what with the new kitten), and I already have quite a few of half started projects.

The completionist in me is telling me to finish:

  • The blanket I started a month ago
  • The other sock I haven’t knitted
  • Needle felting those daiso kits I purchased two months ago

Meh.

Instead, I will watch Great British Bake Off and bake my cinnamon cookies.

Shopping (temporarily) soothes the soul

So remember that thing I did? :< My Mandarake order came in today, as well as one of my crystals from eBay, and a 2nd hand checkered blouse I scored off of Facebook from a friend ^^.

To be completely honest, I made the order with the intention of getting a licca chan for customization, and I wanted to add another Licca to make the international shipping worth it. Nadeshiko Japan (the soccer player Licca) was fairly cheap and the one I will be sending off for a repaint. Her stock is really nice (not sure when my dolls will want to dress as soccer players though) – the material is sturdy and overall well made. Her face though 😦 her factory painted lips are kind of off center. Good thing I’m sending her away ^^.

The Licca Bijou series is so FANCY. I picked this particular girl from the series because of her stock and short, dark hair. She has a pretty nice leather jacket, some nice squishy black boots, and sunnies!

I’m not sure what I’ll name her yet… I think I need to redress her to figure it out because right now, my brain is just like “name her Bijou. Or Ribbon.”

Too cool for school.

Her stock is also really well made! The Bijou series is a bit more expensive than the basic Licca, and she feels more expensive too. I do worry about her feet and arms though, since she didn’t come with socks and her knitted top is sleeveless (staining oh noes).

>_< I’ve lost track of what I’m waiting on. And I’m running out of shelf space D: .

A peek at the doll shelf

^^ I got my orders of doll clothes (two sleep forever dresses and one second hand ronmiel set). I have to say, getting in dolly time is SUPER hard when the kitten wants to be a part of everything I do. I only managed to get the girls on my shelf redressed (will tackle the girls in the glass house tomorrow hopefully).

From left to right:

  • Marina is wearing a minijijo dress, a knitted cardigan, and rement Mary Janes.
  • Mikan is wearing one of my new Sleep forever dresses and shoes from Kuloft.
  • Remy is wearing the Ronmiel long sleeve shirt, a pinafore from missblythe2012, and loafers from a Daiso Elly chan set.
  • Reese is wearing a plasticfashion dress and rement Mary Janes.

What you see here is the shelf that my two cats can’t reach (YET). I have the IKEA huset set displayed, as well as a chair I picked up from Daiso. I plan on painting the table with some chalk paint, wallpapering the back of the shelf, and crocheting a cuter rug… some day XD.

I feel so behind in my crafting/hobbies. It’s hard to get anything done with the kitten bouncing around (she’s so stinking cute and sweet from time to time that it’s hard for me to stay annoyed with her).

🙂 I hope to fit more dolly time in this long weekend.

Mail roll call:

  • Cu-poche figure from Hot Topic
  • A repainted obitsu head from eBay
  • 2 Licca chan dolls from Mandarake

… not… terrible… right? … I need to control my spending but something about the year ending is making me stress shop.

Out of the plastic prison

A (not really) new addition to my doll family – I decided to unbox a licca doll, though it’s been almost a year since I purchased her. I had every intention to sell her, since after some research, I found out that she’s kind of an older licca (though she has a 4th gen face mold), with a really nice stock kimono.

She is Plum Kimono Licca Chan.

She has dark reddish brown hair, which I will most likely never restyle (like my repro licca). I haven’t undressed/redressed this girl yet, but I’m excited to see how many layers the kimono actually is and get a look at the construction. When I redress her this weekend, I’ll get to thinking of her name too. I was thinking Mikan, which means tangerine in Japanese… Because it’s a favorite winter fruit snack.

I haven’t been able to do anything with yarn recently because my kitten won’t leave it alone. :-/ only when she’s napping can I quietly make a couple of stitches (until she wakes up and notices what I’m doing).

🙂 will update again with new outfits on my girls soon.

Trekking along

A month in, and I still feel a bit displaced. I’m considering starting a new blog, kind of hiding it away in the interwebs amongst the thousands of other blogs where people vent and brood… Only because even I’m starting to bum myself out!

My hobbies have been something of a lifesaver as of late. I’ve been kind of in a crafting overdrive- mostly because I feel like I need to keep busy so I don’t feel so alone. I miss my cat and my family D: .

I redressed Remy. She’s wearing a plastic fashion dress, and shoes, socks, headband, and necklace from a Daiso Ely chan fashion pack (so worth the $1.50 and tax). These shoes fit Remy really well, so I’m definitely going to pick up some more.

I also picked up a coloring book, color pencils, and cotton yarn (crocheted into a blanket). I really shouldn’t be spending money, but I tend to fall victim to retail therapy. I actually kind of fell of the wagon, and made a big purchase (nooOoooOo). … Yup. I have a new girl.

XD I’m actually having Marina and Finley shipped to me next week. I’m hoping my room will be more homey, and less lonely with my Blythes hanging out. I also decided to adopt a second hand Blythe from a Facebook group. I have big plans for this girl! And she’s to be my gift to myself – for hanging in there, for doing the best I can, and her sunny hair makes me happy.

Not my photo (from blythedoll.com).

I saw her on a doll adoption group, and I have been keeping an eye out for a stock girl to send away for customization in the future. I even have an idea for a name and character for her! ^^

Hopefully, I’ll start posting more often.

Anyway, stay positive and happy Monday!

Beating that slump

So, it’s nearing a month since the big move. I’m feeling… melancholy… Maybe even ambivalent. Sometimes I think I’m afraid to let myself be happy, and so I focus on the negative. Like, I know I should be happy that I’m in California, but it doesn’t feel permanent. I think it’s because my job and living situation are both short term. I don’t feel established. I feel like at any moment, I can get swept away.

It’s weird.

I’ve been trying to knit again, and I managed to knit up a dress out of this lace weight mohair yarn I’ve been holding onto for a while. I like how floaty the material is.

I purchased a couple of patterns on Ravelry, and I’m excited to start making clothes for my two girls again.

I’ve also started watching Orange is the New Black (I’m late to the boat). I’m kind of hooked, and I’m currently on season 2.

I need to practice being positive.

My last NYC Blythe meet

Hopefully not for forever though. I plan on attending Blythecon 2017, which will be held in Brooklyn. But also, I do plan on visiting NYC once in a while, so it isn’t like I’m saying “goodbye forever” to the NYC community. It was really nice being able to see everyone one more time before I head out westward.

I learned a few things from today’s meet.

  1. I want a Skinny Scalp. See below said scalp modeled on Moppet (Moppet belongs to Heidi of Ricky and Friends). It is super soft! And it makes me happy to know that the scalps are humanely sourced.
  2. Jerry Berry dolls have big heads! Below doll belongs to Julie of Knitting with Dolls
  3. Gardens and parks really are the nicest places to hold meets. There’s so much scenery to photograph the doll in front of, and there’s more space to spread out, especially if the meet-up group is big. The downside is the mosquitoes (:( I left with five bites).

I had fun and also I’m feeling pooped out. The past week has been kind of hectic, and I’m still not packed. 😥 I also haven’t even had time to redress my dolls, so I ended up taking Finley out with me today.

Happiness in simple things

So I’m torn between naming this new girl:

  1. Kenzie
  2. Hadley
  3. Prisma

She’s so delicate looking. I’m not sure any of these names will fit, because when I look at her, these names don’t come to mind (except Prisma, for some reason… But it’s such a oddball name, and also the name of a villain in Sailor Moon). I guess I’ll think some more (way open to suggestions!!… help…).

I’m in a weird funk right now, I think because big changes are coming my way and fast. I know that a lot of my negativity stems from my anxiety, but I can’t turn it off or shake it off. I try to take a day by day approach to life, and do the best I can today so that I might be better prepared tomorrow, but sometimes my “best” doesn’t seem good enough. Even as we speak, despite being thrilled to have this beautiful new Blythe in my collection, I’m worried about safely transporting her with me during my move. Yeah… I’m feeling weird.

Also one more thing! I finally got around to knitting with the hand dyed yarn I purchased off of etsy, and it’s so beautiful~~~~

I’m completely in love with this color way. It’s well on its way to becoming a shawl ^^.
