One thing at a time

In the midst of a major slump. Maybe it’s the winter blues (winter blues apparently is more than just the state of the weather. My whole body is just in the season of winter, and I’m feeling restless and hibernate-y).

I’ve been away from blogging and pretty much all of my hobbies for longer than I would have liked. I guess I’ve just really not been in any sort of mood to do anything.

I have been… watching a crap ton of movies  and playing so much of the new Story of Seasons game (finished year 1).

I’ve had some exciting new additions to my doll family recently.

This is Xenon (also Zee, Zi, or Z) for short. She is a Project Doll House custom by Jannette ^^. She looks so different from Marina (a 2015 custom). I always think it’s pretty neat to see how a person’s artistic style changes through the years. I’ll have to take a side by side photo of Xenon and Marina soon.

Jannette also included a gift girl >_<. This pretty is a DIM Trisha (I think) on a modded Licca body. I super love her faceup! It’s so delicate, and she’s giving me major Snow White vibes with her rosy lips and cheeks (that signature style blush :3) and dark brows and lashes. I’ve ordered her a pair of eyes and a wig, and I had fun shopping for her too! I normally am not a fan of things that involve tiny pieces (sewing… model building… puzzles…), but I’m likely to just keep this girl in the same wig and eyes for forever ^^. Hopefully the ones I ordered will suit her.

Honestly… if this pink hair, purple eye combo works, I’m tempted to name her Potpourri after an older Harvest Moon character.

I do have one more addition to the family, but I will be saving that for another post. ^^

Birthday blues

I’ve been suffering from the birthday blues for about two weeks. I recently hit one of those big birthdays, and I guess it’s a combination of feeling like time is passing too quickly and feeling like I haven’t done much with the time I’ved lived.

And instead of motivating me to get my life together, I’ve fallen back to old habits. I find when I’m bummed, I resort to rewatching shows from my childhood. In the depths of my depression four years ago, I marathoned all of Xena and Hercules (because I love crossovers, mythology, and campy goodness). Right now, I’m marathoning Dragonball (dubbed) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I think it’s because while I remember the general storylines, I don’t remember most of the details. There’s an element of familiarity, but I’m still entertained.

I haven’t done much with my dolls or with yarn lately. It’s been raining a ton recently and my kitten pretty much can’t control herself around string, so no doll activities or crocheting/knitting. The only thing that has been up with me and my girls is that I’ve sold two dolls and I’m expecting two incoming girls ^^.

I’ve sold my obitsu/picco neemo hybrid – I just didn’t enjoy the tiny scale. I’m also in the process of selling Elowyn, my Cherie Babette – even after a year, I still wasn’t sure how I felt about her. I think it might be her coloring. She might look better with a different scalp, but since translucent faceplates are pretty fragile, i really didn’t want to risk causing cracks to the plates during the opening process.

As for incoming dolls, ^^ I’m expecting a new customized girl! I sent my Hi-Ho Marine away to Jannette of Project Dollhouse, and I think she’s coming back soon. I also am adopting Jann’s Jerryberry basic!! 😮 If I recall correctly, a jerryberry was on my New Years doll goals! … also I really wanted to treat myself for my birthday >_<.

Very wordy, I know.

This brings my current doll count to: 4 Liccas and 5 blythes (with a Jerry Berry and another Blythe on the way).

One more thing, I breathed new life into my custom Licca.

I cut her bangs a bit! I much prefer her with the shorter fringe. Her hair was cut oddly, where she had two long pieces (one on either side), that awkwardly covered her face. I decided to name her Wren – my Licca chan who loves wearing shades of brown.

Tomorrow also will be a non-hobby day. Maybe at the very least, I can redress my dolls.

Venturing out

Strangely enough, it’s been pretty rainy in Southern California this past week. I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired this week to take photographs in my apartment, so I grabbed two girls and googled directions to the nearest park.

It’s amazing what a difference in scenery makes. I took out Mikan and Remington for photos since I can just toss them into a bag and go (toss… meaning gently wrap and carefully place in a tote).

At this particular park, I actually got chased by a squirrel. And by chased, I don’t mean “oh it looks like that squirrel is maybe walking toward me or looking at me funny,” this squirrel literally danced around me and scampered after me thinking I might have food. Said squirrel:

Sometimes I feel like I need to push myself to do doll related things, just because I have a lot of dolls (in my opinion, lol for me I have a lot of dolls), and I’m expecting two more dolls in the near future (a repainted Licca and a customized Blythe).

I know it’s okay to have things just to look at and appreciate, but the hobby for me has been an active one – dressing dolls, crafting for dolls, photographing them, and going to meets. It’s hard to get out of that mindset that I should be DOING something with my dolls.

I need to learn how to chill.

Shopping (temporarily) soothes the soul

So remember that thing I did? :< My Mandarake order came in today, as well as one of my crystals from eBay, and a 2nd hand checkered blouse I scored off of Facebook from a friend ^^.

To be completely honest, I made the order with the intention of getting a licca chan for customization, and I wanted to add another Licca to make the international shipping worth it. Nadeshiko Japan (the soccer player Licca) was fairly cheap and the one I will be sending off for a repaint. Her stock is really nice (not sure when my dolls will want to dress as soccer players though) – the material is sturdy and overall well made. Her face though 😦 her factory painted lips are kind of off center. Good thing I’m sending her away ^^.

The Licca Bijou series is so FANCY. I picked this particular girl from the series because of her stock and short, dark hair. She has a pretty nice leather jacket, some nice squishy black boots, and sunnies!

I’m not sure what I’ll name her yet… I think I need to redress her to figure it out because right now, my brain is just like “name her Bijou. Or Ribbon.”

Too cool for school.

Her stock is also really well made! The Bijou series is a bit more expensive than the basic Licca, and she feels more expensive too. I do worry about her feet and arms though, since she didn’t come with socks and her knitted top is sleeveless (staining oh noes).

>_< I’ve lost track of what I’m waiting on. And I’m running out of shelf space D: .

A peek at the doll shelf

^^ I got my orders of doll clothes (two sleep forever dresses and one second hand ronmiel set). I have to say, getting in dolly time is SUPER hard when the kitten wants to be a part of everything I do. I only managed to get the girls on my shelf redressed (will tackle the girls in the glass house tomorrow hopefully).

From left to right:

  • Marina is wearing a minijijo dress, a knitted cardigan, and rement Mary Janes.
  • Mikan is wearing one of my new Sleep forever dresses and shoes from Kuloft.
  • Remy is wearing the Ronmiel long sleeve shirt, a pinafore from missblythe2012, and loafers from a Daiso Elly chan set.
  • Reese is wearing a plasticfashion dress and rement Mary Janes.

What you see here is the shelf that my two cats can’t reach (YET). I have the IKEA huset set displayed, as well as a chair I picked up from Daiso. I plan on painting the table with some chalk paint, wallpapering the back of the shelf, and crocheting a cuter rug… some day XD.

I feel so behind in my crafting/hobbies. It’s hard to get anything done with the kitten bouncing around (she’s so stinking cute and sweet from time to time that it’s hard for me to stay annoyed with her).

🙂 I hope to fit more dolly time in this long weekend.

Mail roll call:

  • Cu-poche figure from Hot Topic
  • A repainted obitsu head from eBay
  • 2 Licca chan dolls from Mandarake

… not… terrible… right? … I need to control my spending but something about the year ending is making me stress shop.

Because Dolls > (Almost) Everything

I came into a little bit of money this Christmas, I decided to spend it (and then some) on doll related things. Yay fun things! Boo practicality (but seriously though… I need clothes. My dolls have a better wardrobe and shoes than I do).

I’m not sure if I mentioned this in a previous post, but I decided to spend a gift card on some Sleepforever duds:

Both are not my photos (they’re the seller’s photos), and they link back to the listed item on Etsy.

I have two dresses in the same pattern, and I really love how they fit on Licca chan (even my 2nd Gen Repro!). I know collars and sleeves take more time to add to a dress, and since they’re so tiny, I would never have the patience to add them to a handmade piece of clothing (not even when i crochet or knit really…). I once tried sewing a dress with collars and proceeded to nope myself out of it and rage quit.

I also did a thing… I made my first Mandarake order for these two Licca dolls >_<. I really like the stock and the hair style of the girl in the first photo, and the 2nd Licca chan I will be sending away to be repainted (another thing I don’t really have the patience or satisfactory skill for). Mandarake is dangerous… I’ve added to my wishlist a Petworks Usagii, Petworks Hitzie, and a Cu-poche figurine (help).

Other than the above, I’m also waiting for some more mundane things (some quartz crystals I scored for cheap on eBay, kitten kibble, a board game, and an electric razor for my kitten’s butt… because she has not mastered the skill of not getting poop on her long hair).

Hopefully this stuff comes in soon, and I can share my haul!

Some holiday hauling

I really can’t believe 2016 is almost over. I probably said this about 2015, but this year really flew by. It’s kind of scary how fast it went, and I feel like this sort of feeling is a sign of aging. 10 years ago, I don’t think I felt this way (I think I felt like time inched forward).

In 2016, I quit my job, moved to California, and adopted a new kitten. I got my first car. I made new friends. 2016 was a big year.

To treat myself during this holiday, I’ve been window shopping these past few days. I bought some shoes on the second hand market, and I’m pretty pleased :3 .

Check it! I kind of only really wanted the boots and the two Mary Janes, as I’m not a fan of Barbie heels for blythe or licca.

I love how the Mary Janes look on Mikan! I think these shoes might be a tad too big for regular blythe feet, but I was looking for shoes for licca anyway ^^.

Also stinking cute ^^.

I feel pretty complete with my shoe collection.

I hope everyone has an awesome holiday!
