Blythe Con Chicago Part 2 – The Haul

This year, how prizes at Blythe Con Chicago worked was that every one who purchased a ticket would receive a goody bag upon arrival. In that goody bag are an assortment of dolly-related goods and a chocolate bar with a golden ticket (because the theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory :3 ). The golden ticket tells you what door prize you won, and you redeem the ticket for the prize at one of the tables.

(Some of) the things I purchased!

The thing not pictured in my haul is the custom face-up commission I purchased with Chantilly Lace. I decided on the spot that I wanted Finley (my stock Cadence Majorette) to have her face redone by a professional customiser. I have mixed feelings about Finley’s stock face. On one hand, I really do like her stock – it’s cute and classic. On the other hand, her face lacks the personality that my other dolls have. I’m excited and anxious as this is my first time getting a doll customized and it was quite a bit of money I wasn’t expecting to spend!

But I’m mostly excited!!

It also feels a little weird being short one doll! But with the clothing I purchased ta the convention, I only really had enough items for three outfits, so I guess there’s that.

Rosaline is wearing polka-dotted pants from Cmon Dolly (LOVE), and a top purchased in a lot on eBay (I think it might be a Barbie top, but I might be wrong). She’s going casual today.

Marina is wearing the complete dress set I won as the door prize. The set is by Miema Dollhouse. I love the daring color combinations, as well as the super cute whale print. The teal color actually matches Marina’s hair perfectly!

Rory is wearing a headband from Kbabydolls, her shirt is from Cmon Dolly, and her pants are from Our Blythes Argentina.

The shelf seems a little lonelier without my blonde girl. She should be back in a month or two though!

A MINIJIJO is happening on my dolly shelf!

XD The etsy store name MINIJIJO makes me giggle (on the inside). “Jijou” means situation/circumstance in Japanese, so when I hear the name MINIJIJO, i immediately think “Mini situation”.

This weekend, my girls were redressed in some pieces I recently purchased from the etsy store MINIJIJO (minus Bryn, because I didn’t purchase anything middie sized this time around, and minus Marina because she was already wearing one of the new dresses). I was in serious need of some separates, so I had purchased a few tutu skirts.

I’m pretty satisfied with how Finley and Rosaline are looking. I still don’t think the blue dress is quite Marina’s style – I get the sense that the dress is a bit too old-fashioned/prim for her… and I’m not even sure WHAT Rory is thinking. Bryn actually looks pretty cute in the crocheted dress I put on her.

And here is Marina modeling a scarf I finished yesterday. It’s quite chunky because I doubled up on the yarn (one strand is mustard yellow and the other is an olive green), and used a really fun and poofy stitch ^^, I was so happy that I managed to figure out what to do with that size particular yarn. The yarn is really soft, but also very thin, and kind of hard to work with. I was wondering what on earth I would do with the yarn, and settled on trying to make a scarf. I have four skeins of this type of yarn, and I will probably make a ton of dolly scarves with them!

MiniJijo haul and completed crochet goods

I’m still struggling to find a dress or outfit that looks made for Marina. I still think she looked best in that blue and white checkered dress with the super poofy skirt that I first put her in, because of the silhouette of the dress (tight fitted bodice with a full skirt kind of reminds me of mermaids, or maybe Ariel?). I was able to pick up my package that I ordered from MINIJIJO, as it was sitting in the post office for about a week, and it included a light blue dress I thought might look cute on Marina.
IMG_3560I kind of feel like it misses the mark… the dress itself is cute though!

And here is the rest of my haul:

IMG_3558I ordered five tutus and two long sleeved dresses ^^. That rainbow deer dress is kind of amazing. All in all, I’m happy with my order from MINIJIJO, as I was in desperate need of separates. The tutus will be used as skirts, as well as underskirts (? … not sure what they’re called, but they will be giving my dresses some volume 😀 ), and long sleeved dresses are perfect for the fall.

I actually have my eye on a few other things in the store. The prices are attractive, and the dresses I purchased are well made, so I will definitely be a return customer.

Here’s my MINIJIJO wishlist:

The main things that my current dolly wardrobe are missing are darker colors (I have an irrational fear of staining), middie clothes, and separates! And weirdly enough, only two of my girls have underwear… so I guess I’m missing dolly undies.

I’ve been trying to curb my doll-related purchases in order to save up for Blythe Con, but I’m not sure how successful I’ve been. My yarn buying has also been kind of out of control this past month >_<. I have a few long-term projects lined up (a bag with blythe sized pockets for toting the girls and my purchases around at Blythe Con, a top for me, and some World of Warcraft related amigurumi), and I’ve also finished a few quick projects.

Tomorrow, I start the Blythe carry bag! >_< The projects that take up a ton of time always feel like such a marathon to me. I loathe leaving things unfinished, but with big projects I’m unable to crochet for more than a couple of hours at a time. Even though I may take a physical break from crocheting, my brain is still thinking of all the stitches that need to be done. .Hopefully 3 weeks is enough time for me to get it done!

No such thing as too many cats.

Rory received a new dress today! She’s quickly establishing herself as the resident cat lady ^^.

I made an custom order for a cat dress from the Etsy store Blythe and the City. I saw these cat dresses in person, and I had to have one, so I contacted the designer, Katja, on Etsy and asked if she could custom make me a grey cat dress.

Here is my baby. And here is the dress!

I think this dress is one of the more dressier pieces in my dolly wardrobe. It’s so cute, and seeing it on Rory makes me happy :3 . The dress itself is very well made (it’s LINED), and the skirt part of the dress is made of faux fur. The dress came with a black belt and a brush for the dress :D. THE BLACK BELT LOOKS LIKE A COLLAR! SO CUTE!

Snaps are the best.

Snaps are the best.

The brush is meant to help with styling the dress by either taming the fur, or giving it a more wild look (kind of like a cat whose hackles are raised).

(Tee hee). (Rory. Why are you so fancy?)

I also want to add that the photos above are the result of Rory having the ends of her hair boil permed. i need to wait a bit to see how well the curl will hold.

Welcoming the new girl

The dress I ordered from Plastic Fashion came in today, and I couldn’t wait to get it on Rosaline.

New dress!

Kitties! Birthday celebrating kitties?

Rosaline modeling her new Plastic fashion dress

Excuse Rosaline’s pull strings. I just ordered pull rings from Twiggy Twiggy for her, and I wanted to put the beads on in advance… because I was really excited about the new beads I got. I boggled Rosaline, but for some reason, her lids still show a bit. I know I definitely cut enough of the eye mech for the boggling effect, but it feels like there’s some resistance that’s causing the lid to spring back out. :-/ (help me)

Welcome to the family, Rosaline~

My girls, both in Plastic Fashion dresses. This might become a thing.

I still don’t know which girl I will be bringing with me on my upcoming trip. Finley is definitely lower maintenance (her hair is way more manageable), and she has a more poseable body. But Rosaline is kind of growing on me… I just don’t know.

Summer etsy store sale

I just wanted to let the interwebs know that I activated a promo code for 15% off on my etsy store. The promotional code is: happyblythe2015.

I only ship within the U.S. at the moment (mostly because I’m daunted by postage price as it is, and when I calculate shipping on the USPS website for international shipping, the site always spits out rates over $30 D: . What am I doing wrong?)

My Evolving Wishlist and Current Mail Call

Nowadays, I use the website Wishlistr.com to keep track of what I currently want. It kind of works like Pinterest, where you can “add to Wishlist” using a button you can save on your bookmarks bar.

  1. A pink haired blythe – Stella Savannah, Prima Dolly Peach, Prima Dolly Peony, Coco Colette.
I think my next blythe doll will be a pink haired girl. i will most likely wait for the next release to come out, rather than scouring eBay for a decent deal. I do have my eye on the My Melody blythe coming out later this year, though I wonder how bright that pink hair is. In the initial photos, My Melody has shockingly bright pink hair (almost neon). She also looked a LOT like Penny Precious.
  2. Cat Themed Jewelry
This one is a bit random. I think my Etsy front page recommended this item to me :D. Even Etsy knows I am a cat lady.
Would love this in gold rather than silver.
  3. Dear Mine Siamy
I recently purchased a Dear Mine Dorothy from eBay (I named her Potpourri :3). I think one day I will also purchase Siamy! She has really sultry looking angled eyes (the Dorothy model has rounder eyes). … What I would love even more is a limited edition Dear Mine Pet Cat doll!
  4. A pink mohair or alpaca wig for my Dearmine anthro Potpourri… also clothes. Lots and lots of clothes.
  5. A Babycatface custom blythe
I follow this artist on flickr, and I was quite taken by one this person’s recent customs for adoption, Olive (name twin!).
    This is Olive
I’m not sure if I’ll ever own one of these girls, as $800-1K is kind of (wayyyyy out) of my price range. I just really love how the lips are carved, and the amount of detail work that went into the doll. This particular custom is a beauty to behold from far away and up close. /SIGH.
RANDOM NOTE: I noticed that I’m not particularly huge on eyebrows on blythe dolls! I think it has to do with the fact that the official releases don’t come with brows.
  6. More Middies!! – i’m not picky. i just need MOAR.
  7. More Blythe Clothes – I have so many listings favorited on Etsy.

Mail Call!

Yes… I did some damage over the weekend. XD
