Late night body swappin’

There’s really nothing like a good box opening to get your mind off of other things (I feel like this is a blanket fact… Unless you dislike presents or shopping or you see the box as an obstacle). Here is said box: The Merry Go Round Licca chan finally came in the mail! She’s a bit pricier than the basic dolls I found on eBay, but I had two intentions when I chose her – 1) I wanted to harvest her body, 2) I would feel bad tossing the head in the bin, so I wanted a girl I could be excited to add to my family without feeling like I have just added clutter (I didn’t want to feel “eh” about the licca chan). So of course, she has pink hair.

When I’m deboxing a doll, the deboxing might take a few minutes, but it’s the things that follow that will take me an hour or two. After I get a girl out of the box, I do a hair assessment. Her hair is actually very close in shade to Rosaline’s hair. It’s also a bit greasy, so she will be getting a wash and maybe a boil curl. I think I will keep her in her pig tails though ^^.

Her stock is kind of cute, but it’s flimsy. It kind of reminds me of a kid’s Halloween costume. I like the print!

And then off goes the head and…    I put Licca chan on a Pure Neemo Flection XS girl body in Natural or Flesh-tone. It’s not a perfect match, but that’s ok. Her skin tone is kind of in between White and Natural. Switching her body was actually pretty easy. I just pulled her head right off of her original body and then pushed it onto the new body.

I really like her on the pure neemo body! I think the proportions are just right, and she looks less like a child’s toy, kind of like a very low-end Ruruko in that they are both on pure neemo bodies and they have painted on faces. Maybe it would be better to call her an upgraded Licca?
Look at how well she holds poses! I guess the PNXS body would work better with a head that’s actually to scale. I actually don’t have much that wouldn’t look too baggy on a licca or pure neemo XS body, so I put her in the Lambellina top, deep burgundy tights, and coolcat boots (pretty much what I had on Summer the first time I rebodied her).

Seeing how well the pure neemo body holds poses with a to scale head makes me excited for the Azone character doll I preordered ^^, as well as putting together an Azone/Obitsu hybrid.

I’m not sure what I’ll call this girl… I’m thinking of Merry, Bubblegum, or Pinky.

Blythe Con Chicago Part 2 – The Haul

This year, how prizes at Blythe Con Chicago worked was that every one who purchased a ticket would receive a goody bag upon arrival. In that goody bag are an assortment of dolly-related goods and a chocolate bar with a golden ticket (because the theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory :3 ). The golden ticket tells you what door prize you won, and you redeem the ticket for the prize at one of the tables.

(Some of) the things I purchased!

The thing not pictured in my haul is the custom face-up commission I purchased with Chantilly Lace. I decided on the spot that I wanted Finley (my stock Cadence Majorette) to have her face redone by a professional customiser. I have mixed feelings about Finley’s stock face. On one hand, I really do like her stock – it’s cute and classic. On the other hand, her face lacks the personality that my other dolls have. I’m excited and anxious as this is my first time getting a doll customized and it was quite a bit of money I wasn’t expecting to spend!

But I’m mostly excited!!

It also feels a little weird being short one doll! But with the clothing I purchased ta the convention, I only really had enough items for three outfits, so I guess there’s that.

Rosaline is wearing polka-dotted pants from Cmon Dolly (LOVE), and a top purchased in a lot on eBay (I think it might be a Barbie top, but I might be wrong). She’s going casual today.

Marina is wearing the complete dress set I won as the door prize. The set is by Miema Dollhouse. I love the daring color combinations, as well as the super cute whale print. The teal color actually matches Marina’s hair perfectly!

Rory is wearing a headband from Kbabydolls, her shirt is from Cmon Dolly, and her pants are from Our Blythes Argentina.

The shelf seems a little lonelier without my blonde girl. She should be back in a month or two though!

Doll clothing haul

I received one of my packages today for a purchase I made on Etsy, and I decided to go ahead and share my haul!

Behold, my loot!

My Etsy and Ebay haul!

Going clockwise from the top left corner, we have Simply Guava’s stock (purchased on ebay), 5 pairs of tights (also purchased on ebay), 2 adorably frilly dresses from Kuloft on Etsy, and a beautiful Plastic Fashion dress from Etsy,

I follow the designer, Laura, on instagram, as she usually announces on there when she is listing new dresses (usually it’s a couple minutes notice… and then 5 minutes later all the dresses are GONE). I couldn’t help myself and I purchased the chipmunk dress for Finley.

I love the shape of the dress with the peter pan collar, and I am a huge fan of the cute prints that the designer uses. I will probably keep stalking the Plastic Fashion etsy store until I find a dress with a cat print that I love.

I purchased the Ever After High Lizzie Hearts sweater from the etsy store Lambellina. This particular design is from a collaboration between Lambellina and Prince Ivy (both of whom I also follow on instagram). One of my favorite characters from EAH is Lizzie Hearts, and her sweaters drape so cutely on the EAH dolls in her photos.

Who wore it better?

I had kind of hoped that the sweater would look as good on my Middie, Bryn, but alas, the sleeves are comically long. I actually don’t like Blondie in this sweater either. i think her coloring kind of clashes with the tones of the top (it really doesn’t help that her tights and head band are blue). I think I will try the sweater on Cupid and see how it looks. The sweater is made very well (tailored like human clothes :D)… I would totally wear this sweater, and nerd out while I watch the webisodes of EAH on youtube.

I’ve slowed down on buying clothes, and I am currently waiting for a new body for Finley, 2 pairs of shoes from Etsy, a pair of hand painted eye chips for Finley that have been sitting in NY Customs for over a week (COME ON USPS), and a Sugar Mag dress from Ebay. I wish there were more sellers on Etsy and Ebay from the U.S, that way shipping wouldn’t take more than a week. I will post photos of Finley in the other dresses once I get her new shoes in the mail! I kind of don’t want to take photos of her in the dress with shoes that don’t match… I feel like I wouldn’t be doing justice to the dresses (… This is just how I feel… >_<).

I also crocheted this dress for Bryn:

Bryn

I’m happy with how it came out, since I kind of went in without a pattern, but I think the yarn I used was a little too chunky. ^^ I bought a few skeins of yarn at Michaels today (there’s always a sale at Michaels /thumbs up) that I think will work perfectly for this type of dress.

I hope everyone is also happy hauling :3.

Giving Finley some charm

My first foray into customizing (not really, lol) – I charmed up Finley’s pull string! I decided to make my own pull charm, since I wasn’t having much luck finding a nice one at my nearby bead or craft stores. I wanted a white cat charm for Finley, a miniature sparrow (3d, and not a silhouette), a white maneki neko, or maybe an Adventure Time themed charm. I purchase some beads for the pull string, and I got working on crocheting a miniature amigurumi for the charm.

😀 😀 😀 The amigurumi cat came out a LOT bigger than I thought it would… I almost didn’t attach it to the pull string it is so big. It kind of looks like Finley has a pet for a pull charm… which actually is kind of cute.

I see on a bunch of other dolly blogs that doll owners will give their dolls a backstory or develop a unique personality for them. This is something that’s slowly coming together for me :D. On the same subject, I really enjoy this post on one of the blogs I follow, where the blogger introduces each one of her girls.

By the way, the outfit that Finley is wearing is all brand new! I just got one of my clothing orders in the mail today. The shoes, stockings, and sweatshirt is from Coolcat-coolcat’s Ebay store. Everything I bought was very affordable. Dolly mail is so much fun!

As of now, I’m waiting for 4 more packages – two of which contain more doll clothes (… I need them!).

Daiso Elly chan fashion pack haul!

Recently, I begged my SO to go to Daiso to pick up some doll clothes for me (I actually said “GET THEE TO DAISO. NAO! PLZ!”). Daiso is a Japanese 99 cents store (more like $1.50 and up store) that has a few stores in the United States. I don’t really have access to one near me, and when I saw a youtube video of a doll collector showing off her own haul of these little outfits, I flipped out and was overcome with this sense of urgency and need (my SO is a good sport).

Daiso has these dolls that are Licca chan knock-offs called Elly chan. They sell these fashion packs for the Elly chan doll for $1.50 each. I was actually hoping they would carry the school girl uniforms (I believe there are up to 3 different versions), but no luck. I did however get:

Daiso Elly Chan clothes

So far I’ve only opened up 3 of the outfits. I have to say, I’m a little sad about how badly the clothes are finished – there is a ton of threads hanging out and they don’t fit well on my EAH dolls. BUT, they were only $1.50 each. The clothes have velcro on the back to keep them on the doll.

Yukata blondie

I think Mattel would make an insane amount of money going this route, and selling fashion packs for their Ever After High dolls. I definitely recommend picking these up if any of the fashion packs catch your eye. I know there isn’t much out there in the ways of Ever After High doll outfits (short of buying a whole new doll and swapping clothes), and they’re only $1.50 each.

Blondie Lockes and Cupid

I’m not sure if I’ll put these clothes on my new Blythe – I’m afraid that these clothes might stain her body. I may try giving these clothes a good soak in vinegar water, and a light washing to see if any dye runs from the fabric before considering dressing my new doll in these outfits.
