Shopping (temporarily) soothes the soul

So remember that thing I did? :< My Mandarake order came in today, as well as one of my crystals from eBay, and a 2nd hand checkered blouse I scored off of Facebook from a friend ^^.

To be completely honest, I made the order with the intention of getting a licca chan for customization, and I wanted to add another Licca to make the international shipping worth it. Nadeshiko Japan (the soccer player Licca) was fairly cheap and the one I will be sending off for a repaint. Her stock is really nice (not sure when my dolls will want to dress as soccer players though) – the material is sturdy and overall well made. Her face though 😦 her factory painted lips are kind of off center. Good thing I’m sending her away ^^.

The Licca Bijou series is so FANCY. I picked this particular girl from the series because of her stock and short, dark hair. She has a pretty nice leather jacket, some nice squishy black boots, and sunnies!

I’m not sure what I’ll name her yet… I think I need to redress her to figure it out because right now, my brain is just like “name her Bijou. Or Ribbon.”

Too cool for school.

Her stock is also really well made! The Bijou series is a bit more expensive than the basic Licca, and she feels more expensive too. I do worry about her feet and arms though, since she didn’t come with socks and her knitted top is sleeveless (staining oh noes).

>_< I’ve lost track of what I’m waiting on. And I’m running out of shelf space D: .

Because Dolls > (Almost) Everything

I came into a little bit of money this Christmas, I decided to spend it (and then some) on doll related things. Yay fun things! Boo practicality (but seriously though… I need clothes. My dolls have a better wardrobe and shoes than I do).

I’m not sure if I mentioned this in a previous post, but I decided to spend a gift card on some Sleepforever duds:

Both are not my photos (they’re the seller’s photos), and they link back to the listed item on Etsy.

I have two dresses in the same pattern, and I really love how they fit on Licca chan (even my 2nd Gen Repro!). I know collars and sleeves take more time to add to a dress, and since they’re so tiny, I would never have the patience to add them to a handmade piece of clothing (not even when i crochet or knit really…). I once tried sewing a dress with collars and proceeded to nope myself out of it and rage quit.

I also did a thing… I made my first Mandarake order for these two Licca dolls >_<. I really like the stock and the hair style of the girl in the first photo, and the 2nd Licca chan I will be sending away to be repainted (another thing I don’t really have the patience or satisfactory skill for). Mandarake is dangerous… I’ve added to my wishlist a Petworks Usagii, Petworks Hitzie, and a Cu-poche figurine (help).

Other than the above, I’m also waiting for some more mundane things (some quartz crystals I scored for cheap on eBay, kitten kibble, a board game, and an electric razor for my kitten’s butt… because she has not mastered the skill of not getting poop on her long hair).

Hopefully this stuff comes in soon, and I can share my haul!

New things! Finished things!

My Missblythe2012 order came in today! Yay! I ordered an outfit for my (kind of neglected) Hujoo Janus – who is waiting patiently for a face up, and two bottoms for my Blythe girls ^^. Ahhhh I’m so happy with my order! The items are so cute, especially the pants!

I also finished the socks I was working on ^^. It was so satisfying to have finished making these things, because (1) they knitted up relatively fast for someone who only knew how to knit and purl, (2) they fit, (3) they’re comfy, and (4) I’ve never made socks before! I’m tempted to make another pair of these socks, but try to incorporate a different color for the heels and toes, rather than to try a new pattern. I haven’t made up my mind though.

Also, for the first time in my yarn-centric hobby, I’ve really splurged on a skein of yarn XD. I ordered this hand-dyed skein from Dyedinthewoolyarnco. It’s so beautiful – I had to have it. It reminds me of both an Easter egg and Madeline Hatter.

not my photo. from dyedinthewoolyarnco.

I will be making a shawlette with this gorgeous yarn :3. I treated myself ^^.

Can’t wait for the three day weekend!

Shopaholic

I went on a bit of a clothing shopping spree for my girls, partially because I kept running into a “you guys have nothing to wear!” situation, and I tend to make small feel-good purchases when I’m having off-days. I’m still waiting for one more order I made on etsy, but I did get two packages in this week.

Yep. Another Plastic Fashion dress. This one is in an adorable unicorn print with hearts and gingham. I really covet my Plastic Fashion dresses, as they look great both on a doll, or even just stacked together.

I also bought 2 second hand dresses from Facebook, and the seller was super nice and included some adorable extras ^^. I purchased the two brown and blue checkered dresses (both I recognized as by the etsy seller Sleepforever), and the smock type top, the floral skirt, and the tiny rubber chicken were delightful surprises :3. I couldn’t wait to get my new clothes on my girls, and I thought it would be cute if Marina and Reese matched, since their hair color is very similar.

Reese needs some kind of accessory, but I’ll figure it out later. Marina looks fly XD.

As for knitting, I’ve made quite a bit of progress on my sock!

I’m actually a little further along with the sock since I took this photo. I’ve learned that for next time… It would probably be a good idea if I kept track of the number of rows I make, that way I can make an identical second sock (oops!).

Happy Friday everyone!!

New things!

I got my two etsy orders in the mail ^^, and I decided to redress my dolls today.

The first order I got today was from Kuloft – I ordered two dresses, a pair of shoes, and a 2 piece outfit that is a skirt and shirt.25485920685_08de4d3a85_z

Elowyn is wearing the two piece set and the red shoes (which I love!), and Reese is wearing the blue drying dress.

From Tired Mom Knits, I ordered three hand-knitted sweaters and a white and gold dress.

Rory is wearing the pink sweater over a dress by MissFreyaJ, and Marina is wearing the brown sweater and gold dress. I’m blown away by the quality of the sweaters! They’re made of such soft, nice quality yarn, and impeccably knitted.

Seamless segueway to my knitting progress:24832401473_1ed2e4e460_kI’ve made three of those knitted shrugs so far, and I think I’m ready to try a new pattern. I’m pretty happy with my progress, as I thought that anything beyond the simple knit and purl would be beyond me. I will be trying a new pattern next, and hopefully the pattern won’t stump me! Knitting is like a whole new language XD.

Post-Birthday Blues

It’s been a few days since my birthday, which came and went uneventfully. I’m starting to feel that time is passing a lot faster than it used to, which bums me out – gone are the days when I felt I had all the time in the world. I have that feeling where I have so much I need to do and a ton of things I want to do, but I have no clue where would be the best place to start so I choose to do … Nothing. :-/ You know what I mean?

Actually, that’s not entirely true. When I get to feeling overwhelmed and under-motivated, I shop, eat, and watch T.V. (Currently watching House M.D.). I also did some damage on etsy >_< (oops). I made two orders in the past week, and I’m really excited for them to come in the mail! The first order is from Kuloft, three dresses and a pair of shoes. I was contemplating getting another flower dress, but I opted to get a couple of the drying dresses. (Photos below from the Kuloft Etsy store)

I’m actually kind of kicking myself right now for not grabbing a Chicken dress.

The second order is from Tired Mom Knits, three cardigans and a dress. I’ve been meaning to order from this store, and there’s currently a 30% off coupon (code: Birthday30) – perfect opportunity :3 . The store also has a ton of stuff for middies! (Photos below from Tired Mom Knits Etsy store)

This week’s goals – relearn how to knit, start Saran reroot attempt #2, konmari my life (a little).

Happy Holidays, Welcome back, and Welcome home!

I’m excited to share the newest addition to my dolly shelf, as well as hail the return of my first Blythe, Finley! First, the new girl:

I am the proud owner of a Wendy Weekender! She is an FBL mold, and had been on my wishlist for some time. I’m partial to the color of her hair, and I’m excited to add a new face mold to my collection. I purchased her on an adoption group on Facebook as NRFB, and received her within a week. That was about three weeks ago, so she’s been sitting in my sister’s room until Christmas. Why, you may ask? ^^ Because my sister is my secret Santa, and when I guessed she might be, she offered to pay for my new girl as my gift.

I noticed that she has a blemish on her cheek, which I’m going to chalk up as a factory imperfection. It doesn’t bother me too much, because it didn’t muck up her blush and is only slightly noticeable in photos. Also… She was a steal.

So far, I really adore the color of Wendy Weekender’s hair in person. Her FBL face also seems a smidge more cherubic than my other girls (it might be in my imagination though). I also like her super loud stock, because it makes me think of how you think a child might dress with no parental supervision.

This Button Arcade dress is my new girl’s “welcome to the fold” dress :D. 23957142225_82c3c822dc_kI’m thinking of naming her Reese. She definitely needs a hair spa.

Last but not least, Finley returned home right in time for Christmas! I left Finley with Chantilly Lace for customization while I was at Blythe Con Chicago, which was back in the middle of October. I was stoked when the mailman dropped Finley off earlier than expected, because the estimated delivery date was this Saturday.23931508316_53f2fc296e_kHer complexion is soooooo smooth and loooveeelyyyy.23957599875_d00afbd49e_kI put her in one of my Plastic Fashion dresses, and I think she looks super sweet. I’m so happy with how Finley turned out. The custom work is very clean, and Finley is so darn cute. I do feel like I have to get to know her again though, since she looks so drastically different now.FullSizeRender_14.jpgHere is my updated Blythe collection!23328893064_12d7c7cf69_kFrom left to right: Marina, Finley, Rory, Name TBA

XD Marina and Wendy Weekender look like sisters!

I hope everyone has an awesome holiday and weekend!

Tis the season (to gift myself stuff)

I view Christmas as a great reason to splurge on myself ^^. I had two dresses sitting on my closet, one from Plastic Fashion and one from Button Arcade. I purchased the Plastic Fashion dress specifically for Marina, and I meant to wait until Christmas Eve or Christmas to try the dress on her… But I caved.     Marina’s style is lady-like, and a bit off-beat. I love the attention to detail on the dress, and the way the fabric pattern is carefully aligned.

I’m saving the Button Arcade dress for my new Christmas girl ^^.

I’ve also been crocheting some tiny underwear for my girls! Finley and Rory didn’t have any so I found a pattern and whipped a couple up.      I have them on a spare Licca chan body over a pair of scrap-quality underwear the doll came with. They’re bloomers! I found the pattern for these on Ravelry, and I made the following adjustments:

  1. Used crochet thread 10
  2. Used a 2mm hook
  3. Crocheted 32 single crochet onto the elastic.
  4. Skipped 15 instead of 14 when beginning the first leg hole, and double crochet 8 instead of 7.

I think the undies are really cute!

^^ I will have more doll stuff to share later! I am expecting Finley back today (Yayyyy!), in addition to my new Christmas girl (:o).

Blythe Con Chicago Part 2 – The Haul

This year, how prizes at Blythe Con Chicago worked was that every one who purchased a ticket would receive a goody bag upon arrival. In that goody bag are an assortment of dolly-related goods and a chocolate bar with a golden ticket (because the theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory :3 ). The golden ticket tells you what door prize you won, and you redeem the ticket for the prize at one of the tables.

(Some of) the things I purchased!

The thing not pictured in my haul is the custom face-up commission I purchased with Chantilly Lace. I decided on the spot that I wanted Finley (my stock Cadence Majorette) to have her face redone by a professional customiser. I have mixed feelings about Finley’s stock face. On one hand, I really do like her stock – it’s cute and classic. On the other hand, her face lacks the personality that my other dolls have. I’m excited and anxious as this is my first time getting a doll customized and it was quite a bit of money I wasn’t expecting to spend!

But I’m mostly excited!!

It also feels a little weird being short one doll! But with the clothing I purchased ta the convention, I only really had enough items for three outfits, so I guess there’s that.

Chicago and Blythe Con

Rosaline is wearing polka-dotted pants from Cmon Dolly (LOVE), and a top purchased in a lot on eBay (I think it might be a Barbie top, but I might be wrong). She’s going casual today.

Chicago and Blythe Con

Marina is wearing the complete dress set I won as the door prize. The set is by Miema Dollhouse. I love the daring color combinations, as well as the super cute whale print. The teal color actually matches Marina’s hair perfectly!

Rory is wearing a headband from Kbabydolls, her shirt is from Cmon Dolly, and her pants are from Our Blythes Argentina.

The shelf seems a little lonelier without my blonde girl. She should be back in a month or two though!

Much needed weekend

I decided to make the most of this weekend, what with my family out and about doing their own thing. Saturday was a day of reading book 4 of the Outlander series (sooo gooOOood), drinking rose wine, crocheting, and cuddles with the cat ^^. I also made it out to Michaels – I went thinking I’d buy a glue gun, but I ended up leaving the store with a giant skein of brown/rust multicolored yarn and yellow felt.

Behold, the fruit of my labor.

Pokemon Hoppip Amigurumi: This pattern was easy to follow and not too complicated. I think the creator of the pattern also has a video tutorial of how to make this amigurumi. The only problem I have with making amigurumi is that it’s not really the type of project where I can focus on other things while I crochet. I always need to check the pattern and keep track of my rounds.

IMG_2586

Pusheen Amigurumi: This one went relatively fast, but then again, it’s a pretty small plushie. I didn’t have grey yarn on hand, so I made this little guy light blue and white. The amigurumi kind of looks derpy (not sure I captured the essence of Pusheen), but it’s still really cute. This pattern was also easy to follow, and the pieces were not hard to put together.

I’ve finished up two skeins of yarn so far, and I’m close to finishing a third. I’m making granny squares with yarn balls too small to start a new project, but to big to discard. One day, I will have a giant granny square blanket of  clashing colors, just because waste not want not.

I also got some dolly mail in the past couple of days!

Rawr

My BJD’s wig came in! It’s a tad big on her but not terribly so, though I definitely need to use a silicone wig cap. The wig cap prevents the wig from sliding off Potpourri’s head. I commissioned this wig from the Etsy store Belinda’s Lock. It’s a soft pink alpaca wig, and it is so freaking soft I can’t even. Ahhhh I love alpaca! The wig totally completes Potpourri’s look! I need more alpaca in my life.

desserts

I also won a listing on eBay for Alicia Cupcake’s stock outfit. Bryn doesn’t have much clothing (save the crocheted dresses I’ve made for her), so I thought a middie stock outfit would make a good addition to her wardrobe. The shoes and the blouse should prove handy. The dress/jumper is cute in a costume-y way and the headband is ridiculous (it doesn’t stay put very well and the bow doesn’t look all that great). 😀 I crocheted the little cupcake next to her feet recently as well.

I’m on the fence about bringing Bryn to Blythe Con. On one hand, the Middie is the official doll of Blythe Con Chicago. And if I decide to get a custom doll at Blythe Con from one of the vendors, I wouldn’t have to worry about toting two Neo Blythes. On the other hand, I think a Neo Blythe is more fun to carry around!

Now, I’m just waiting on: Kuma Nendoroid (I expect this in about 2.5-3 weeks) and Blythe front and back face plates (This currently reached the ISC sorting center… I have no clue how long it will stay there),

Tomorrow I expect I shall be cleaning, crocheting, and reading some more ^^. How I wish weekends were 3 days long instead of 2.
