So, it’s nearing a month since the big move. I’m feeling… melancholy… Maybe even ambivalent. Sometimes I think I’m afraid to let myself be happy, and so I focus on the negative. Like, I know I should be happy that I’m in California, but it doesn’t feel permanent. I think it’s because my job and living situation are both short term. I don’t feel established. I feel like at any moment, I can get swept away.
I’ve been trying to knit again, and I managed to knit up a dress out of this lace weight mohair yarn I’ve been holding onto for a while. I like how floaty the material is.
I purchased a couple of patterns on Ravelry, and I’m excited to start making clothes for my two girls again.
I’ve also started watching Orange is the New Black (I’m late to the boat). I’m kind of hooked, and I’m currently on season 2.
I need to practice being positive.
I finally got a bit of “Me” time in the past two days. I’ve been in California for 13 days (/mind blown), and I spent the first week and a half stressing out about basic life stuff like:
- Finding a job
- Finding a place to live – half check
- Getting a car – check
I can safely say that I’ve done 1.5 of the above. So, I spent today and yesterday in a zoned-out stupor, trying to relax. Trying, and only semi-succeeding.
I did manage to do two hobby related things! I FINALLY finished my WiP – the Simple Things shawl. Check it:
I have to block it, but I’m so pleased with how it came out!! I love how speckled the hand-dyed yarn is. I really can’t wait until it gets cooler for me to start wearing this. I wouldn’t say that this project flew off my needles, as I think it took me about a month (I’m so slow at knitting).
I think my next project will be a pair of socks… Or maybe a dolly thing. Doll things knit up way faster, and I’m kind of over time-consuming projects for now.
I also finally redressed Prisma. She is my one girl that looks really good in black and white. For good measure, I also put these large black frames on her (to match all those bespectacled cats).
When I’m settled into my new digs, I’ll be sure to post an update :D.
So I’m torn between naming this new girl:
She’s so delicate looking. I’m not sure any of these names will fit, because when I look at her, these names don’t come to mind (except Prisma, for some reason… But it’s such a oddball name, and also the name of a villain in Sailor Moon). I guess I’ll think some more (way open to suggestions!!… help…).
I’m in a weird funk right now, I think because big changes are coming my way and fast. I know that a lot of my negativity stems from my anxiety, but I can’t turn it off or shake it off. I try to take a day by day approach to life, and do the best I can today so that I might be better prepared tomorrow, but sometimes my “best” doesn’t seem good enough. Even as we speak, despite being thrilled to have this beautiful new Blythe in my collection, I’m worried about safely transporting her with me during my move. Yeah… I’m feeling weird.
Also one more thing! I finally got around to knitting with the hand dyed yarn I purchased off of etsy, and it’s so beautiful~~~~
I’m completely in love with this color way. It’s well on its way to becoming a shawl ^^.
I decided to dive into my Blythe wardrobe to redress my (still nameless!) Licca chan. I’m still doing some trial and error to see what fits and what is too big. I thought her flannel shirt and jeans were not complete without a beanie, so I attempted to crochet one!
This is the smallest hat I’ve ever made, and it’s still a bit too bulky. I might try knitting a beanie instead, but I’m slightly intimidated by knitting in the round for something that tiny. What I really want now is some large black frame glasses for her!
I’m also currently working on a pair of tiny baby socks! They’re the Rose City Rollers sock pattern by Orange Knits. I’ve started the second sock, but dang, do I really not want to XD. I guess after the first sock, the pattern becomes really monotonous. I’m really excited to see these socks on my baby cousin’s wee feet ^^.
I’m really looking forward to the long weekend, kind of just to catch up on things I’ve been meaning to do… Like declutter some more dolly clothes, finish some of my WiPs… catch up on some sleep.
One more thing! I’m having a sale at my etsy store for 20% off with code SUMMERSALE.
I currently have 2 works in progress – one crocheting project and one knitting project. I started my knitting project first – I wanted to try different colors for the heel and toe for my next pair of socks and so I learned how to change yarn by watching YouTube videos.
I’m not as happy with how this sock came out compared to my last pair, but the neon heel and toe are fun! I did a ribbed cuff, and a stockinette the heel. It’s been a week since I finished this sock… And I kind of don’t want to start the second sock. Ughh do not want. (is this Second Sock Syndrome??)
My second project is the Movie Night Cacoon Cardi.
So far I’ve used up 3 skeins of Bernat sport yarn (pattern calls for 6), and I need to crochet about 10 more inches on each side before I get to the next step. It’s basically a giant granny square shrug. It’s pretty satisfying with how quickly it’s crocheting up. Also, I’ve had this navy blue sport yarn for a really long time and I’m glad to find a good use for it.
I wish it was fall! Then I can wear all my wooly creations.
My Missblythe2012 order came in today! Yay! I ordered an outfit for my (kind of neglected) Hujoo Janus – who is waiting patiently for a face up, and two bottoms for my Blythe girls ^^. Ahhhh I’m so happy with my order! The items are so cute, especially the pants!
I also finished the socks I was working on ^^. It was so satisfying to have finished making these things, because (1) they knitted up relatively fast for someone who only knew how to knit and purl, (2) they fit, (3) they’re comfy, and (4) I’ve never made socks before! I’m tempted to make another pair of these socks, but try to incorporate a different color for the heels and toes, rather than to try a new pattern. I haven’t made up my mind though.
Also, for the first time in my yarn-centric hobby, I’ve really splurged on a skein of yarn XD. I ordered this hand-dyed skein from Dyedinthewoolyarnco. It’s so beautiful – I had to have it. It reminds me of both an Easter egg and Madeline Hatter.
not my photo. from dyedinthewoolyarnco.
I will be making a shawlette with this gorgeous yarn :3. I treated myself ^^.
Can’t wait for the three day weekend!
I went on a bit of a clothing shopping spree for my girls, partially because I kept running into a “you guys have nothing to wear!” situation, and I tend to make small feel-good purchases when I’m having off-days. I’m still waiting for one more order I made on etsy, but I did get two packages in this week.
Yep. Another Plastic Fashion dress. This one is in an adorable unicorn print with hearts and gingham. I really covet my Plastic Fashion dresses, as they look great both on a doll, or even just stacked together.
I also bought 2 second hand dresses from Facebook, and the seller was super nice and included some adorable extras ^^. I purchased the two brown and blue checkered dresses (both I recognized as by the etsy seller Sleepforever), and the smock type top, the floral skirt, and the tiny rubber chicken were delightful surprises :3. I couldn’t wait to get my new clothes on my girls, and I thought it would be cute if Marina and Reese matched, since their hair color is very similar.
Reese needs some kind of accessory, but I’ll figure it out later. Marina looks fly XD.
As for knitting, I’ve made quite a bit of progress on my sock!
I’m actually a little further along with the sock since I took this photo. I’ve learned that for next time… It would probably be a good idea if I kept track of the number of rows I make, that way I can make an identical second sock (oops!).
Happy Friday everyone!!
The Knitpicks bare sock yarn I recently dyed is slowly but surely becoming a sock!
I’m really enjoying knitting with this ball of yarn! I like when there’s a row of very saturated color – it’s so happy :3.
I’m using the Rose City Rollers sock pattern. I feel like I’m learning a ton of new knitting techniques as I’m working through the pattern. It’s definitely slow going, and I’m not used to projects taking me so long. I’m excited to try making dolly sized things with this yarn.
I also decided to put Rory in the red dress I received in a recent swap. I love how it looks on her, and it brings out the reddish tones in her hair. I also don’t have anything quite like it in my doll wardrobe, so I kind of want to put Finley in it next to see how she looks. … Speaking of doll clothes, >_< I’m expecting three packages of doll clothes in the mail (woops).
I’m feeling a major need to declutter!
My Knitpicks order came! I ordered quite a bit more than I expected too in order to reach the $50 free shipping.
By far, way nicer yarn than I have used in a while. Everything in my stash before this haul was purchased from Michaels, and either cotton or acrylic. For my Knitpicks order, I ordered two Bare skeins for dyeing, 6 skeins of sock yarn (stroll I think), 1 skein of lace weight mohair, and 1 skein of alpaca yarn if I remember correctly (I might be wrong XD). I already dyed one of the bare yarns yesterday, along with the other half of the practice yarn I purchased from Michaels. Behold!
By the way, winding the pink/yellow skein was a nightmare. I literally stood over a table for three hours trying to wind the yarn into a ball without ending up with a tangled mess. I’m quite pleased with my results for this round of dyeing! This time I used food coloring and kool aid powder. I found that the kool aid powder is especially good for getting a speckle effect.
The blue/green practice yarn has become a part of a pair of slippers and a merit badge. ^^ The slippers are kind of ugly but soooo comfortable and easy to make. The merit badge is quite cute! I have it hanging as a charm on one of my purses.
(don’t mind my feet plz D:)
I’m really happy with how the blue/green skein came out! For my other bare yarn skein, I might try to recreate the effect. I was a bit reserved with my pink/yellow skein because I was worried I’d end up with a rainbow tiedye skein again.
Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
This week has been a bit spendy for me, what with birthdays, bad days which called for retail therapy, and this crafty mood I’ve been in. ^^ I’m currently waiting on my Knitpicks order, which is set to deliver tomorrow, and I recently went to the Lion Brand Studio and picked up some items.
I picked up two sets of Hiya Hiya Sharp double pointed needles in size 0 and 1. The needles I currently own were all purchased from Michaels, and are either Boye or Clover brand. The Boye, I think are made of aluminum, and the DPNs that I use the most (size 1) are all bent! I decided to invest in nicer needles, and I’m so glad I did. I noticed that the Hiya Hiyas are easier to get into stitches and smoother. I also picked up the needle measuring thingamabob, because I have some needles purchased way back when I was learning to knit in elementary school of unknown size.
I also think I’m ready to try a new pattern XD. I’ve made a sleeveless version of the Blythe Raglan x-long sleeve sweater by Kimberly Kwon about six times with varying success (that’s the pattern in the background that I printed out and kind of worked off of). I’ve yet to really sit down and tackle sleeves, because I hate trying to pick up stitches onto a needle again.
I dunno why, but with the two Blythe tops I’ve made, I felt compelled to make one in each color of yarn I have! I actually finished the skein of the thin yarn in the blue shade, which I’m super proud of. Rory is currently wearing the mustard yellow one I made.
One more thing:
Here is how the yarn I dyed looks after being crocheted! Look all the colors! This rectangle is going to become one slipper, and once I dye the second half of the practice skein, that will become the other slipper.
Now I’m off to bed! Eta 2 days til Saturday.
